Bio

Ton Rulló i la Pegebanda, is a music band from Catalonia, a small country within Spain, with more than 1000 years of history, with its own language spoken by 6.000.000 million people. It is a Mediterranean country with its own characteristic culture and worldwide known artists such as Gaudí, Dalí, Mompou, Miró and Pau Casals. Our songs are influenced both by all the music from our environment as well as by overseas (Latin America) musical traditions. Ton Rulló i la Pegebanda have written a collection of songs based on texts from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries entirely sung in Catalan language which are small chronicles about our ancestors' ways of life, battles, love songs, invasions, lullabies, bandits' deeds, work... in brief, a mosaic of songs ranging from ancient folklore passed on to us orally by senior citizens to our own songs with modern arrangements but respecting the tradition. The band is made up of 9 highly experienced musicians: Ton Rulló (historic musician of the country and a pioneer of the progressive folk music with "Grup Coses"); Jordi Pegenaute (guitarist and producer of bands such as Loquillo and Trogloditas - selling over one million copies in Spain only -, Maria Creuza "La mitad del mundo", etc; Karina Vizkaino, vocals (usual collaborator of Jordi Pegenaute); Angel Salanueva (mandoline, mandola), a widely experienced musician; Pep Pérez Cucurella, a prestigious bass player in the Spain, playing for musicians such as Vicente Amigo, Joan Manuel Serrat, etc, and a music teacher at the Upper School of Music of Catalonia; Oriol Saña, violin, a graduate in violin performance by the University of Berkeley and a music teacher at the Upper School of Music of Catalonia; Alex Martinez, keyboards, a graduate in composition and scoring film by the University of Berkeley; Tito Busquets, drums, teacher at the Municipal School of Music of Badalona; Marc Vila, percussion, teacher at the Municipal School of Music of Badalona.
Our first CD "FORA LO DOGAL!" has been chosen by the critic and the magazine "Sons de la Mediterrània" as 2007's second best folk music CD. Moreover, the song "Moro errant" has been awarded the 2008 Cerverí Prize for best Catalan lyrics.
