The Long Awaited and Much Anticipated Pop Star Tonya Mitchell is Back and Quickly Taking the Music Industry by Storm

Biography

Tonya likely surprised a lot of people with her debut, I Represent, an R&B-tinged pop tour de force. That Tonya, who comes from tiny Huron, Tennessee, has gotten this far without formal voice and dance lessons or the usual stint in the Mickey Mouse Club. Tonya has been singing since she was old enough to talk, startling her family by the amazing voice that came from such a young child. "Once my parents realized I could actually sing, they started putting me in talent shows," Tonya remembers. By the time she was seven years old, Tonya, the daughter of a homemaker mother and a famed local magician father known as Cowboy Louie, was recording makeshift demos at Barbara Mandrell's studio, and making her rounds at talent shows and county fairs in the south.

Tonya was discovered in 1998, while singing at a regional benefit for St. Jude's Hospital. "I had a cold that day, and I didn't even want to go," Tonya, who was then fifteen, recalls. "After I finished singing, a man came up to me and said he really liked my voice. He said Justin Timberlake from 'N Sync was his grandson, and that maybe he could help me. Tonya didn't think much would come of it, but the encounter ultimately led to a meeting with Just In Time Management's Lynn Harless, Timberlake's mother. Tonya eventually signed with Universal Records and in short order entered the studio to record her twelve-song debut.

Each track was recorded in two days-without the usual bells, whistles and massive layers of gloss that accompanies most pop releases. Remarkably, each track she recorded made the finished version without Tonya knowing how unusual that was." The release of I Represent serves as the end result of years of struggle and sacrifice. I Represent made a believer out of everybody: The disc brimmed with unforgettable pop tracks reminiscent of those by Tonya's heroines, Mariah Carey and Aaliyah.

Asked to be one of the opening acts for the *NSYNC* Pop Odyssey Tour in 2001 took Tonya's career to a higher level by making appearances at venue's with some of the worlds biggest acts today which included: Nelly, Boys II Men, Lil Romeo, Dream and Tyrese just to name a few. Things were looking very promising for the young Mitchell but things began to die down quickly. In early 2002, labels we're not returning calls or answering emails so her father took it upon himself to help her out, trying to get her back into the pop culture. Soon after, her father passed away and Tonya decided to take a much needed break. In early 2003 she got married and started a family, now after almost 4 years of silence she's breaking back into music with Brand-On entertainment, and as she says "doing it for her father".

(Say what.) yeah yeah

As Far as I remember baby it was you who said
it ain't working,lets be friends.
And now your trying to call back but there aint no chance
let me help you pack your backs

It is not my destiny to be played by with ya boy
I'm not some kind of toy less there is a emergency
don't call me up no more (no more),I'm showing you the door
cos

I represent the girls who want that
the girls who say that, the girls who play that
Yes,I represent the girls who want that, the girls who say that, the girls who play that yeah

Yeah (yeah) yeah (yeah) yeah (yeah)

You must think I'm crazy (crazy)
but I can't comprehend that we can be till the end (the en-d)
Still ain't nothing changing baby.what part of the end you don't understand

Whats this sense of urgency?
It's something that you had aint nothing like you had.
you must watch too much T.V.
Cos this aint wonderland,I'm telling you again (again, again)

I represent the girls who want that
the girls who say that, the girls who play that
Yes,I represent the girls who want that, the girls who say that, the girls who play that yeah

Oh yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah yeah yeah yeah
the girls who play that yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

T-to the O to the N to the Y to the A
We're about to start doing this my way (uh,uh)
What? your leaving and trying to come back
Listen up boy,a matter of fact

It is not my destiny to be played by with ya boy (uh uh)
I'm not some kind of toy less there is a emerngrcy
don't call me up no more (no more),I'm showing you the door
cos

I represent the girls who want that
the girls who say that, the girls who play that
Yes,I represent the girls who want that, the girls who say that, the girls who play that

I represent the girls who want that (I represent..yes)
the girls who say that, the girls who play that (oh yeah)
Yes,I represent the girls who want that, the girls who say that, the girls who play that

I represent the girls who want that (yeah yeah)
the girls who say that, the girls who play that (play that..I represent)
Yes,I represent the girls who want that, the girls who say that, the girls who play that yeah

Broken Promises

Written By: Tonya Mitchell

No more lonely nights
Baby, that's just what you told me
(Thats what you said)
But you're nowhere to be found
Something just ain't right
'Cause I can't get you to hold me
Even when you're around

Baby you promised me
That you'd always be there for me
(Tell me) Tell me what's on your mind
(Tell me what's on your mind)

What happened to the "I Love You"s
The hugs and kisses and the rendezvous'
What happened to me and you
You said you'd never change
What happened
Baby, talk to me
You used to be sugar sweet
Just like candy
Now you're breaking my heart
With all your broken promises

Open your eyes
Baby that's what people tell me
(That's what they say)
But it's hard to let you go
I can't take your lies
If you're spending time with somebody else
You gotta let me know

Baby you promised me
That you'd never run a game on me
(Tell me) Tell me what's on your mind

What happened to the "I Love You"s
The hugs and kisses and the rendezvous'
What happened to me and you
You said you'd never change
What happened
Baby, talk to me
You used to be sugar sweet
Just like candy
Now you're breaking my heart
With all your broken promises

You say you're gonna do this
And you say you're gonna do that
But you never come through
(But you never come through)
And it's so different lately
'Cause you don't call me baby
I just don't know what to do
(I just don't know what to do)

What happened to the "I Love You"s
The hugs and kisses and the rendezvous'
What happened to me and you
You said you'd never change
What happened
Baby, talk to me
You used to be sugar sweet
Just like candy
Now you're breaking my heart
With all your broken promises

You say you're gonna do this
And you say you're gonna do that
Oh what happened to me and you
You said you'd never change
Baby baby tell me
What happened
Baby, talk to me
You used to be sugar sweet just like candy
Now you're breaking my heart
With all your broken promises

So quit breaking my heart
With all your broken promises

Stay

Written By: Tonya Mitchell

I've must have been blind
Not to see you look away from me
Whenever you say "You love me still"
I must have been crazy
Not to see you slip away from me
Day after day there's a space to fill
and I can't find the words,to make you fall in love with me agian
and I can't find the strength to let you go oh oh

And when it's all said and done, you'll be the only one
Even if there's nothing left for us to say
as sure as the sun will rise I can never say goodbye
Even if we go are separate ways
In my heart you'll always stay

ooh ooh

Been spending my time
to try to remind you of our love
But you're pulling away with every touch
With all we've been though
I'd never thought i'd be losing you
and i would give everything to keep you here
But I can't (but I can't) find the words to make you fall in love with me again
and I can't find the strength to let you go oh oh

And when it's all said and done, you'll be the only one
Even if there's nothing left for us to say (nothing left to say)
as sure as the sun will rise I can never say goodbye
Even if we go are separate ways (ooh)
In my heart you'll always stay

I,I,I still believe our love meant to be oh
And it will be here forever come one day (come, one, day) ooh ohoh
can you see? I love you faithfully oh yeh
And one day im telling you I find a way to get back to me ooh

And when it's all said and done, you'll be the only one (said and done)
Oooh,nothing left to say
as sure as the sun will rise I can never say goodbye
Even if we go separate ways
In my heart you'll always stay

Oohh umm
Ooohh
