Gentle Medusa

Gentle medusa
by Tony Leach

I read a tale the first page
Was a clean and barren blank page
On a bare stage
Lay the first born

The baby used her eyes
She looked upon the crisp, cold morning
Watched her sisters forming

And those who in their half light fought an ancient war
Were bade to settle every score

And the sisters cried
All alone they called my name

Don’t cry we don’t belong my girl
There’s other places to discover
When you smile it’s in your eyes
You turn away just like your mother

So the baby lay alone
She turned my hand to stone
As I reached through the dark to take her

Close your eyes I’ll introduce her
Touch her face and touch her toes
But if you peek as you seduce her
My gentle medusa’s heart goes….

So why’d you go
And leave me
You bite the cold rock and bleed me
Set my soul aflame

And I don’t mind
But you might find

That I’m the one
Who wakes up
You’re gentle medusa’s face up
And her perfume
And her bedroom
And her make-up
