Bio

Tony Q. is a saxophonist with over 30 years experience and has been performing professionally nationwide for over 20 years. Having been recognized for his exceptional ability many times throughout his musical career, Tony studied at the Berklee College of Music as well as privately with John Payne, Bill Thompson and Dennis Taylor. He began his career working with the popular local Boston R&B/Motown act “Sally and the Sophisticatz” throughout 80's and later continued with such bands as “The Wrecking Crew,” “The Whitewalls,” “The Big Bad Wolf,” “The Swinging Johnsons,” (with whom he performed between periods at a Boston Bruins game at The Fleet Center in Boston) “Something Blue,” “The Love Dogs,” “Blue Heaven,” “The Bruce Marshall Group,” “The Feel,” “Comic Strip,” and “Clutch Grabwell.”

His performances have played a part in opening acts for such well-known artists as “Bob Hope,” “The Beach Boys,” “Jon Pousette-Dart,” “America,” “Wilson Pickett,” “Junior Walker,” “Eddie Money,” “The Average White Band,” “David Cassidy” and “Johnny Winter.” Tony has also had the privilege of performing for Presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton as well as for the late Pope John Paul II. He was also invited to perform on stage for a set with the late blues legend “Clarence ‘Gatemouth’ Brown” at the Boston blues venue “Harper’s Ferry.” Tony also performed with “Amy and the Hank Sinatras” at “Vic’s Kangaroo Café” in New Orleans and was invited to join the group at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

He is a member of the acoustic rock group “The Jon Frattasio Band” with whom he has performed at Jimmy Buffet’s “Margaritaville Café” in Key West for the past 7 years as well as live on stage with Peter Mayer, Jimmy Buffett’s lead guitarist and singer songwriter and R. Scott Bryan, percussionist/guitarist/songwriter who performed with Sheryl Crow on her premier tour.

In addition to performing as part of these rock, R&B and blues groups, Tony formed his own jazz group “Q'd Up” which performed in several jazz clubs in the Boston area for over 2 years. Continuing in the jazz vein, Tony recorded his first solo jazz cd “A Circle of Riffs” in 2003, which has sold very successfully via the internet and at his live performances. His debut cd covers a wide variety of jazz styles from sweet ballads to samba to funk and includes original music co-written by Tony. It is currently available at www.cdbaby.com.

In 2004, Tony performed our national anthem “The Star Spangled Banner” at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts during opening ceremonies for both the New England Revolution soccer team and the New England Patriots football team.

Tony Q. has been performing in Las Vegas for the past 4 years at such venues as Monte Carlo Casino & Hotel & The Legendary Stardust with “The Johnny Ray Band,” a Boston-based rock, R&B, and dance band where he has been a featured soloist as well as background vocalist. Tony was also invited to perform at a special private backstage party for Alicia Keys and her band to celebrate the end of their 1 1/2 year tour at the MGM Grand Hotel.

Tony brings a positive, crisp, energetic and passionate jazz-flavored funky groove to every performance.

He relocated to the Las Vegas area in 2004 in order to more aggressively pursue his musical career and has signed on with Spank Management, an artist management group who will be promoting Tony Q's career both nationally and internationally.
