In an era where the standard of today's hit music seems to be centered around the overpowering thirst for sex and money, we find that all too often we accept this mediocrity, but it doesn't truly speak to what's in our heart: love. The true gems in music are those with the suave, polished voices that can articulate the emotional roller coaster life tends to take us on. Motivated by R/B icons that sung of real love and heartache, Anthony "Tony T" McIver will prove to be one of the iconic staples of music with his soulful sounds of R&B/Neo-Soul. "Tony T'' provides an innovative, edgy sound as well as a smooth tone that acknowledges the R/B legends that have come before him.

As a native Washingtonian (Wash, DC), Tony T discovered his passion for music at an early age with his mother. “My mom always had Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, or The Stylistics blasting in the car. I would sit and listen to them belt out heartfelt lyrics and think to myself that someday I want to do that.” Tony T was able to develop his vocal sound and expand his natural talent by joining the children's choir at John Wesley AME Zion Church at age seven and the Youth Choir at People’s Congregational Church of Christ at age eleven.

At age twelve , Tony T began taking piano lessons as he entered junior high school. He also joined the Jefferson Junior High School Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Ensemble not as a piano student but as a tuba player, where more of his musical talents were uncovered. “Playing the tuba helped me gain a profound appreciation for the bass instruments that hold the structure of a song together. I tend to listen to the bass line of a song, then create the melodies that embed themselves freely in the song.”

After high school Tony T relocated to Tallahassee, Florida to attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. “Knowing the business side of music has been both a help and a hindrance. The business side tends to influence the music because there is always the pressure of being an industry standard to be profitable; in turn, this demand limits the artist and the creative touch I posses. However, I will always strive to produce music that has a high level of authenticity as it finds it way in to the hearts of the masses.”

Although Tallahassee is a great distance from home, Tony T was able to enjoy a piece of DC flavor by joining the DC Taliband, a band formed by D.C. natives that attend FAMU. Their love for Go-Go inspired them to bring a revamped style of music, which includes a heavy percussion beat mixed in with Tony T’s smooth high tenor voice. It was with the Taliband where Anthony was deemed ‘Tony T’ by friends and fellow band members. “As a new member of the band, I was told I would need a stage name to go by. I had a friend, Big Shot, that is an inspiring DJ and hype-man that came up with the name out of the blue and it just stuck after while.”

With a constant desire to perfect his craft, Tony T will bring that same passion to all his future endeavors in the studio, as well as on stage. “I want people to know that there are still artists like myself that strive to recreate a timeless sounds with money as a bi-product of amazing talent. Know that I will provide a sound that will echo throughout the ages.”
