Bio

Through intricately textured arrangements and musical depth drawing on influences as diverse as the Dave Matthews Band, the Police, and Queen, Too Many Drummers engages and captivates live audiences.

Songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Dave Abbott, drummer Collin Berner, and bassist Erik Rishel have been playing together since 2008. Too Many drummers combines Dave's worldwide influences, Collin's classical, jazz, and rock experience, and Erik's sense of funk and groove. Together they create melodic art rock, a genre of energetic music infused with compelling lyrics, dynamic arrangements, and fist-pumping grooves.

Too Many Drummers’ energetic live show and unique sound distinguished them from 47 other competing bands at the 2009 Battle for Christ Competition in Athens, Tennessee. Their victory in the Contemporary Christian Category earned them the opportunity to play main stage at the 2009 Ichthus music festival in Wilmore, Kentucky. Building on their success, Too Many Drummers opened for Tenth Avenue North and Sanctus Real at the 2009 Summer Slam music festival in Winchester, Kentucky. From there, Too Many Drummers went on to play at Georgetown, Kentucky’s Annual Festival of the Horse (which draws 20,000 people) and Winchester, Kentucky’s Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival (which has been headlined by international acts like Keith Urban and Sugarland). Additionally, the band has been featured through their live performances on Knoxville, Tennessee’s Live at Five at Four news program, Lexington, Kentucky’s WKYT Channel 27, and Chattanooga, Tennessee's 2010 J-Fest christian music festival. Too Many Drummers is steadily expanding their regional presence in Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, and Indiana through performances at festivals, conferences, churches, and competitions.

Locally, the band has worked to promote community awareness through their participation in Lexington, Kentucky’s Sleepless in Lexington, an event focused on the plight of the homeless. Also, Too Many Drummers has performed in Nicholasville, Kentucky at All God’s Children, an outreach program for pregnant, troubled teenagers.

The band's new album, "do you believe the world is flat?" (released April 2010) realizes Too Many Drummers' namesake message: In a world of voices clamoring to convince you that meaning must be purchased or consumed, God speaks through the chaos offering a meaningful existence and wholeness found in Jesus Christ.

"The first time I heard "Too Many Drummers" it was refreshing. The pure creativity that was on the stage and the presentation and attention to details made me an instant fan. I think they play every instrument known to man... I'm jealous! I'm enjoying the record! You should check it out too." - Kevin Ward, Producer, 2 time Dove award winner
