I recently caught a show at the Frog and Peach.
Four piece, Too Much or Too Little, played for a packed house. The music style could commonly be referred to as Rock Alternative, but this band has developed their own take on it, with slap bass, a flying aphro, melodic hooks, and rich guttoral choruses. The guitar leads and embracing lyrics won over the guys and ladies equally. Drums played hard and tight while the bass thickened up the sound. No member of the band upstaged another. The relationship between these guys felt real, and somehow that always plays into the music. They gave the crowd no choice but to rockout.

As childhood friends, Erik Ekdahl and Jordan McKinley shared an uncommon talent and a mutual interest in music. This appreciation sparked a strong desire to perform and develop their songwriting style. The drive continued when the two formed a band and composed a library of songs before they were even out of high school. A short time later, Erik and Jordan met Whit Aadland, a classical trained and ever intense guitarist with style to boot. The three eventually moved from San Diego to San Luis Obispo, CA, were they connected with Eric Pierce. Pierce was a local bass player with an unmistakable groove and a true affinity for the bands style. The band was now complete. Too Much or Too Little's music is as meticulous as it is melodic. Shaped by observing the unpredictability of the human condition, their songs have a unique depth that can best be described as "think rock." Too Much or Too Little's sound has developed with precision and integrity. The band itself longs to create a progressive brand of rock that carries with it value and meaning, both lyrically and technically.
Connecting with people on a personal level and balancing between saying too much or too little (musically or in conversation), is the driving inspiration for the band. This concept became the groups' foundation as they bred a rhythmically driven and diverse sound which succeeds in going well beyond the confines of mainstream rock.
In 2003, Too Much or Too Little fully integrated into the San Luis Obispo scene when they won the Cal Poly State University's Battle of the Bands. In addition to appearing all over the central coast, the band has been spoted in Los Angeles and regularly in their now "second home" of San Francisco. The latter is where, in December 2003, they impressed and eventually signed with Klepto Records.
Too Much or Too Little's first full-length album is due in stores and online mid to late summer of 2004."The album is sort of a tour of the human psyche," says Erik who wrote all of the songs for the band's first release. "It asks some pretty relevant life questions-questions about the heart and the head and the status quo." The group isn't afraid to search for the answers though, even when the process is a struggle. "It's worth the work," Whit says. "Everything I've ever loved about music, I hear at least once every time we play."
