"Song Premiere: TORCHES"

"These guys know how to make a driving-with-the-top-down jam, that's for sure. With subtle harmony and heart-thumping drum solos, the title track off their forthcoming EP is a breath of indie-rock fresh air. " - NYLON Magazine

"EXCLUSIVE SONG PREMIERE: 'STARING,' TORCHES"

According to Torches' interests on Facebook, the band is into "chips & salsa, chamomile tea, and sex." It's a great shorthand for their music, which combines California rock and passion while soothing the senses. The California duo—Azad Cheikosman and Eric Fabbro—makes music that bridges the gap between indie-rock and darker pop, with thoughtful lyrics and gorgeous harmonies.

We're excited to premiere the band's track "Staring," which blends rock, emotion, and guitar rhythms together seamlessly. "Staring" will be featured on their new album, which was produced and engineered by Dave Newton (Henry Clay People, The Soft Pack) and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Wilco, Andrew Bird). The band's sophomore record will be a follow-up to its debut 2012 LP Heads Full of Rust and 2013 EP If the People Stare.

In addition to their upcoming album release, the band will be opening for Moving Units at The Roxy on March 28. Torches have also shared the stage with Atlas Genius, Wild Nothing, Andrew WK, Sea Wolf, Maps, Atlases, and more.

We spoke briefly with Azad Cheikosman about sex, playing with Moving Units, and coming into their own skin. - Interview Magazine

"Stream: Torches, ‘Endlessly Repeating’"

Torches has gone through several changes throughout the years; everything from their band name to their soundscape has evolved. New experiments and realizations, however, have been favorable for the L.A. duo. The band is currently preparing for the release of their new EP and each tune, so far, has wonderfully been inching toward luxuriously full pop arrangements. It’s an impressive feat considering their music initially started out in a realm of dream-pop tinted with dark psychedelia. Producer David Newton (the Soft Pack, Henry Clay People) has, of course, lent his magic touches on songs like the fetching title track single “Endlessly Repeating,” but it’s the new energy of singer-guitarist Azad Cheikosman and drummer Eric Fabbro that marks this new batch of songs as stimulating. Torches’ “Endlessly Repeating” EP is slated for a June 17 release.

TORCHES are an indie rock group tied together by a shared nostalgia from the music of their youth and dreams for the future. They have been making their mark in the LA music scene with their dark, indie/rock – filled with lush guitars, infectious harmonies, and pounding, tribal drums. After releasing the If The People Stare EP in May of 2013, the group headlined a SOLD OUT residency at The Echo. They garnered the attention of KROQ, Alt 98.7 FM, LA Weekly, FILTER Magazine and shared the stage with bands such as Wild Nothing, Atlas Genius, Haim, The Drums, and more.

The sounds of Torches have made airtime on KROQ, MTV’s Catfish and Underemployed.” They have also been featured in NYLON Magazine, BBC, LA Times, Interview Magazine, etc. Torches formerly worked with Local Natives’ producer, Raymond Richards and their latest release, Endlessly Repeating EP (2014) which was engineered by David Newton (The Soft Pack, The Mighty Lemon Drops, Henry Clay People) and Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Wilco).
