"Torches To Triggers - Modern Day Monsters Album Review"

Recently signed by "Bird Attack Records" and "Bells on Records", Torches to Triggers is a melodic hardcore band comprised of five of Calgary's best local talent. Justin, Phil and Corey, from "Inventing The Wheel", Corey a local base legend from bands such as "One Shot Left" and "This is a Standoff". Kyle, a new addition to the band, former band mates with Chris, from "Obey The Fist" and both with deep seeded roots in the prairie punk rock scene. These five musicians have emerged from Calgary, Canada, a city nestled in the foothills of the Rockies, creating an album for the ages, Torches to Triggers is a force to be reckoned with.

"Modern Day Monsters" has awoken a sense of nostalgia in me, an album that reached out and grabbed my attention, staying true to its punk roots with a new, fresh, crisp feel. As nostalgic as this album is for me, it's not your stereotypical power chord, 4/4 time punk rock. I find it to be a Pandora's box of awesomeness! With dollops of metal in kyle's rippin' guitar solos and essence of punk rock, in Corey's quirky base lines, hard rock in Phil's fills. Justin, strong and steady holding, rhythm, all layered like a perfect punk rock parfait, with chris' bluesy melodic vocals as the cherry on top. Torches to triggers has honed their skills, coming leaps and bounds from their first album "Doomsday in Douglasdale" released in 2011.

Torches to Triggers (TTT) formed in late 2011 with the goals to collaborate multiple styles of music surrounding the melodic and hardcore punk genres. The original lineup was comprised of Corey Tapp, formerly of This is a Standoff, Gavin Spate, Justin Stilwell and Phil Schumacher. Most are EX members of Calgary's Inventing the Wheel. Shortly after the amalgamation of the instrumentals, lead vocalist - Chris Kreuger joined the collaboration to bring the sounds full circle with a strong presence of melodic and heavy vocal ranges. In late December 2011, Torches to Triggers recorded two album teasers This Moment and Countdown. The group re-entered the studio during the summer of 2012 to record the debut album Doomsday in Douglasdale which was released throughout the month of October 2012 with the help of PS Entertainment, Bells On Records (Japan) and Sums Records (Europe). Canadian and European show dates followed in support the debut album with likewise punk acts such as Guttermouth, Authority Zero, Strung Out, The Ataris and many more. May, 2013 saw the original guitar player (Gavin Spate) depart the group for other musical endeavors which opened the lead guitar position to Kyle Wilson, former band mate of Chris Kreuger from the Calgary based band Obey the Fist.

With Kyle in the mix, the musical diversity expanded the genre range of Torches To Triggers which prompted immediate writing sessions and recording of the 2nd full length album, Modern Day Monsters. On January 20th 2014, Torches To Triggers released a teaser video for the song The Perfect Hero to kick-off the album campaign with the primary album release of ‘Modern Day Monsters’ which took place on April 30th, 2014 through Bird Attack Records (USA), Bells On Records (Japan) and PS Entertainment. TTT quickly embarked on a Canada/USA tour from May to June 2014 alongside Mesa Arizona’s, Authority Zero in support of Modern Day Monsters. Shortly after the cd release tour, the second video for Small Town was released with one more video scheduled for release before New Year, 2015.

2015-2016 will boast a busy schedule for Torches To Triggers with the writing and recording the 3rd full length album a return to Europe and later tours through Japan, South America and North America.
