Bio

Town in the City formed in January 2012 when Pittsburgh-based songwriters Shawn Grindle and George Chammas moved to Los Angeles with their good friend Dan Macken, a blues-head from Rochester, NY. There they met up with well-rounded drummer Matt Campbell, and later were joined by Whitt Bell, a guitar/bass player who often has his ears on funk music.

After spending their first few months in LA listening to countless amounts of records, they decided, "why not make one of our own?" They bought a handful of microphones and recording equipment, and began work on their self-titled, debut album. After a year of recording and production, it was finally released, and "Town in the City" was officially born.

The band has since then completely a two-song EP with the help of producer Jaron Luksa, and is about to finish another 5 song EP recorded at their home studio, and have plans to begin work on a second, self-produced record.

The name "Town in the City" is derived from the Jack Kerouac novel "The Town and the City." All five members of the band are from smaller towns on the East Coast and moved to the big city. It's the thought of being so small inside of something so large, and the desire to escape, break-through, and be heard.
