"collaboration using web 2.0"

Lucky Thobela is a musician South Africa can be proud of. He has been a thread in
the tapestry that is South African music for many years and has been instrumental in
exporting our culture to the world through his involvement with the stage shows
Umoja and Gumboots and artists such as Hugh Masakela, Pops Mohamed, Moses Khumalo,
and Jimmy Dludlu. Lucky is currently busy with his new band 6Mabone, a
neo-traditional, township marimba band and a project called Songs of Good Hope.

6Mabone is more than just a great, South African band, they are a concept created by
Lucky with an aim to educate the youth of South Africa in our musical traditions.
6Mabone is a marimba band which means their feet are firmly planted in those
traditions, but their sound is a modern, township vibe that is accessible to the
next generation. Lucky is taking this sound to the people not only via 6Mabone's
album Township Rimba, but also by directly interacting with school children through
traditional drum and marimba workshops.

Songs of Good Hope is a project sponsored by IBM that is bringing together musicians
from around the world to compose seventeen songs about South Africa. Participants
are utilizing Web 2.0 collaboration tools to construct the music piece by piece
online (www.sawubona-musicjam.com). The culmination of the project will see the best
songs recorded by a "global band" and packaged on CD. Profits from sales of the CD
will benefit IBM's Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Projects like 6Mabone and Songs of Good Hope are what Lucky Thobela is all about. He
is a gifted musician who uses his talents not to achieve the one-dimensional goal of
personal success, but to uplift society as a whole. As Songs of Good Hope
demonstrates, technology is shrinking the world and we are well on our way to living
together as one global people. Lucky is doing all he can to contribute to that
process and for that reason he is not just a musician South Africa can be proud of ,
he is a man humanity can be proud of.
