Toy Devils

Toy Devils began in late 2005 as collaboration between Jason Tincher and Winchester Goggin, in an effort to reign in Jason's unusual and twisted singer-songwriter works into a more live, band-oriented environment to channel the boundless manic energy. The project quickly picked up speed, moving out of the padded living rooms that had been the setting of early recordings and insane ranting.
Matt Foster joined the band in early 2006, bringing a more dynamic element to the previously straightforward rock style of the band. M. Foster quickly became a catalyst for energy-riddled antics and the crowd pleasing persuasion of the shows. Shortly thereafter, Matthew Conley officially joined in late '06 to round out the sound and style with his indie rock sensibility.
Having worked together in other bands, the live performance aspects (such as intense crowd involvement, bizarre and often tongue-in-cheek visuals, walls of sonic attacks) took very little time to establish, and have quickly become the most talked about aspect of the Toy Devils musical arsenal. Solid yet bombastic performance, limitless energy, and a call and response crowd involvement permeate the bands live shows.
The lyrical styling is reminiscent of storytellers ranging from Harry Chapin's cynical love stories to Eddie Vedder’s unforgiving narratives to Les Claypool’s bizarre rambling. Influences for the group range widely: from calm, blue note jazz such as Miles Davis and John Coltrane, to psychotically discordant noise, namely Sonic Youth, Melvins, and so on. Direct influences to the Toy Devils’ sound are The Smashing Pumpkins, Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, Failure, Eels, Sonic Youth, Murder By Death, The White Stripes, and the Trifecta. Other avenues of art, literature, and life also greatly influence the band, to produce a whole that is more than just a sum of its parts.
