"Star?... Or No Star? EP"

Toy Gun Cowboy opens its EP with a track called “Lo-Fi.” And although this quirky dance-rock release has a likeable homemade quality to it, it is by no means slapped together alternative rock.

“Lo-Fi” tells the story of “a wannabe college lipstick dyke,” which puts it squarely in the college rock demographic. But these lyrics are matched to funky dance music, not strummed electric guitars and mumbled vocals. And with “Broom Sweep Time,” the music ambitiously leans toward jazzy Miles Davis Bitches Brew quality art. This latter one includes saxophone, nearly whispered vocals and spacey keyboards. Toy Gun Cowboy is at its most accessible during “Little Scatterbrain,” which puts new wave-sounding electric guitar upfront in the mix.

It would be generous to call what Toy Gun Cowboy does singing because every recorded vocal is treated. It’s as if they’ve attempted to intentionally obscure the human voice the whole way through.

Star? ... Or No Star? is an innovative collection of studio experiments, even if Toy Gun Cowboy constantly makes you ask: Who was that masked man? - Indie-Music.com

Bio

Toy Gun Cowboy hails from Long Beach Calif. with music that provides a new direction and a sonic template for the brave new post major label world.

TGC cranks out catchy music with a trashy sub-standard quality that is well suited to the new disposable age. The listeners, who are left feeling cheap and dirty find themselves returning again and again.
