""How Many Hearts" CD Review"

Traci Kennedy's long-awaited debut CD is finally out and I couldn't be more happy for her. If you're looking for unbiased reporting, you're barking up the wrong long-tall Texan reviewer. Traci is one of my favorite Canadian people eh, and just from the few songs I've heard from her on myspace and her website, I had a feeling I would like this CD before I even dropped it in the player.

Traci has one of those voices that I like to call breezy, it's pretty and light and never over-powering. Her vocals are very easy and pleasant on the ears, it's actually very refreshing when you consider the recent redneck vocal edge that's has dominated country female singers over the last several years. Not that I don't like Gretchen Wilson and that style of country singing, I do, it's just nice to be reminded that Sears ain't the only thing that has a softer side, so does country music, Traci Kennedy proves that very nicely.

Jumping right into the deep end of this CD, the Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Chuck Jones penned, "Room With A View", is a magnificent tribute to Traci's deceased father to whom she dedicates this CD. Kennedy really finds the right balance of heart tugging and spirit uplifting in her delivery on this very touching song.

"I'm Still Kissing You" is one of those sexy little numbers that will make your horns pop out just a little bit with the images it brings to mind. Check out this chorus; "You linger like a song / On my lips and on my tongue / In everything I do / I'm still kissing you"... WOOF!

The title track, "How Many Hearts", is a deceptively upbeat song for the slash and burn attitude of the lyric. It's an old story that a lot of women (and men) can identify with; girl falls in love with a turd, turd leaves girl, girl knows that in the end, the one that will hurt the most will be... the turd.

How Many Hearts was Produced and Mastered by Paul Jefferson, he also had a hand in writing 6 of the 10 cuts, plus he sang backup vocals and played several instruments on the CD. Multi-talented dude.

Be sure you check out the list of "thank yous" on the inside cover and I think you'll get a really good view of where Traci's head is. She's a very grounded, talented young lady and I expect to hear good things from her for many years to come.

Bio

Perhaps the ultimate compliment one can pay to Canadian Country Music artist, Traci Kennedy, is to mention her name amongst the likes of Shania Twain, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Terri Clark. Each of these singer/songwriters is extraordinarily talented, incredibly beautiful and highly-respected amongst their peers. And while Traci Kennedy’s star power continues to climb towards the higher echelon reached by her aforementioned contemporary artists, it won’t be long before larger audiences across North America and around the world recognize her angelic voice.

A stunning beauty and equally talented as a songwriter and vocalist, Traci Kennedy is a country girl through and through. Labeled “Canada’s answer to LeAnn Rimes” following a 1999 performance at the Grand Ole Opry, Traci was born and raised in the idyllic farming community of Aylmer, Ontario. It’s no surprise, then, that despite her enormous success, she remains a humble superstar. It’s evident in the way she interacts with her growing legion of fans, and in the way she unselfishly gives of her time, both as a community leader and as a mentor to up-and-coming artists.

Fresh on the heels of her 2006 debut CD, How Many Hearts...a huge hit in both Canada and the U.S., and around the globe thanks to the power of the Internet...Traci is poised to share her highly-anticipated follow-up CD. It can’t come at a better time, as How Many Hearts has left audiences with an insatiable appetite for more of Traci Kennedy’s soulful ballads and toe-tapping tunes.

Traci Kennedy’s story is a familiar one: small-town girl, first sang in front of church audience at age 5, and continued to hone her skills both as a performer and as a songwriter. But there’s much more to Traci Kennedy than a stereotypical storyline. The difference is evident in her music, and in the way she interacts with others. Traci’s heart is as huge as her talent, and it will show even more in her next CD release.

“I love performing because music is universal. It’s inside each and every one of us. Each song holds a special meaning, and every person can relate to a song in their own special way. Making people smile, seeing and hearing them sing along to my music... it is an amazing feeling.” - Traci Kennedy

With her tender heart in tow, Traci was welcomed with open arms when arriving in Nashville to record her debut CD. How Many Hearts was produced and mastered by the accomplished Paul Jefferson, a Nashville legend with numerous Top-10 recordings to his credit, including Aaron Tippins’s, That’s As Close As I’ll Get To Loving You. How Many Hearts also features Jefferson as a backup vocalist and instrumentalist, plus co-writer of six of the 10 cuts.

Each of Traci Kennedy’s songs tells an unforgettable story, while her silky voice delivers an array of pleasure. Traci can melt your heart with one note, then lift your spirits with another. It’s an uncommon musical trait which stems from Traci’s soul, and it’s present in the song, Room With A View.

Penned by Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Chuck Jones, this song was originally released as part of Johnson’s 2001 debut album which turned certified Gold. Traci does this song proud with her own memorable version. She’s at her best here, soft and soothing yet powerful and possessing a spiritual tone. It’s no surprise that Traci dedicated this song and the entire CD to her father, who passed away shortly after hearing her sing on the radio for the first time. It was a dream come true, and a fitting tribute. Says Traci, “My father gave me my voice. He was my hero, my inspiration.”

The title track of How Many Hearts, and the track, I’m Still Kissing You, demonstrate Traci Kennedy’s outstanding vocal range and diversity. Fans cannot wait to hear her sophomore offering. Traci is ecstatic to be returning to the recording studio in Nashville. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, expect more superb offerings from one of Canada’s most entertaining Country Music stars, as Traci Kennedy and her band continue to celebrate life. With extraordinary band members backing her vocals in Canada, and a terrific team of musicians supporting her in the U.S., Traci is ready to take on the world. Already, Traci’s performance highlights rank amongst the best in Canadian Country Music. She has shared the stage with superstars including Lonestar, The Roadhammers, Trace Adkins, Little Big Town, Ty Herndon, Heartland, Emerson Drive, Sawyer Brown, Michelle Wright, Adam Gregory, Lisa Brokop, Beverley Mahood, Julian Austin, Jamie Warren, Johnny Reid and Charlie Major to name a few.

Traci Kennedy’s accomplishments and accolades are endless, and they continue to multiply. In 2007 & 2008 she was the only independent Canadian act chosen to perform at the legendary WYCD Downtown Hoedown in Detroit. In 2006, Traci brought the house down at the famous Gilley’s in Dallas, Texas. 2006 also saw Traci finish as a finalist in the All American Superstar competition where she performed as the only C
