"Metal4life...UK Review"

Anyone who has known me for more than about three seconds will know that the greatest music ever created is southern Blues rock. No-one will ever match the sheer power and soul of bands like the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws, Sea Level and others of that ilk. So I always get a wee bit excited when someone comes along promising me a new dose of my favoured poison. The Sterlinglane Project are the latest to try and get me all excited.

Singer / songwriter Traci Sterling and producer John Mclane have been working together for the last ten years, but this is the first recorded fruit of their labours. And, for once, it's been well worth the wait. Ms Sterling is a seasoned performer who has been out there on the road since the eighties with never made it bands like Temptress and Zipper, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia. Mr Mclane has also put in his time in the salt mines as a producer, engineer and musician, and he takes care of all the instruments here as well as the production.

But this is the music they want to perform and when they hit a righteous groove as they do more often than not, then it's a thoroughly invigorating sound. Ms Sterling has done a bang up job of combining her more rock oriented vocal influences - Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart - and combining them with a southern Blues vibe. Add in some excellent songs with 'Do You Really Love Me', 'Here We Go Again' and 'Are You The One' amongst the highlights, and you've got a really enjoyable album. A couple of the numbers fall over into generic rock territory with 'Some Of Your Time' the worst offender, but there are far more highs than lows.

Traci Sterling brings her 80's influences into her writing and composing. Her music is to be described as sturdy rock songs and -ballads with finished and closed bombastic sound and orchestration. She maintained influenced to be, by the known singers in this specific rock genre: Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks and the ladies of Heart. Also the typical eighties rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company is very recognizably present in her numbers. Since 1997 she writes and sings with multi-instrumentalist John McLane with whom "The Sterlinglane Project" has evolved. Mostly rock she is sturdy and soulful to the example of her idols. Out of the corner comes such sensitivity as in "Do You Really Love Me", that was taken up in the studio of producer and Tony Camillo that previously worked together with soul diva Glady's Knight. In "Here We Go Again" and in "Are You The One" we hear then again bursts of Tina Turner because of the hoarse voices and the typical rock ballad-vocals. "Lonesome Heart" rock's but contains a lot of influences from the blues genre as a fine guitar solo and piano swing. "Don't You Really Know " is a little jazzy from the corner with good buyer work and a beautiful acoustic guitar solo. Traci Sterling has a very powerful voice with which these various music styles come naturally. She is a vocalist to be on the stages where she totally in front but also the ability for backing vocals for single larger names in this genre. A must have Project for the lovers of this kind of music. (Valsam)
