Bio

Tragic November started back in 2000, when lead singer/songwriter Shawn Hatfield got a new guitar and decided to start writing music. Although he’d always known he would, now it was a need, a driving force that compelled him. Relationships, romantic and otherwise didn’t seem to be going well, and all that emotion needed an outlet. The music started out as pop tunes, but that didn’t feel right. As the songs evolved, they fashioned into a heavy alternative/metal feel.
The first name for the band was Shit Magnet Victim (SMV). It reflects how Shawn was feeling when he started making music. SMV had the help of Henry Damewood, who brought a different perspective to the music as it evolved. He is currently involved in promotion, creating new music and designing the band website.
In 2003, while recounting all the deaths of close family and friends in November, as well as his birthday being the same month, the name Tragic November came into play. The name didn’t stick until 2006, when his mother diagnosed with cancer, passed away November 7th. That day, Tragic November became the name of the band.
Since then, Tragic November has created a full CD, and the band has played with a couple of fantastic musicians.
Drummer, Michael McQuilkin, who played with Fiction Damage, in the early to mid 90’s, is extremely talented, and Shawn was familiar with his work. After running across his Craigslist ad, Michael was added to the band.
The two of them found Christian Orneles, Bass Player, and added him to the band a mere two weeks before they were set to play their first show at The Stage, in the Gas Lamp, San Diego. The guys connected well, and played a successful show.
Their debut album, Fallow, is in itself, ‘seeding the way’ for more music to come out of these talented musicians. Watch for updates about when you can own the CD.
Tragic November is founded by Shawn Hatfield, lead singer, guitarist, songwriter.
