"Trances Arc debut promises mainstream success"

While the name "Trances Arc" makes me think of an electronica-heavy jam-band, the Atlanta-based four-piece is actually an alternative rock group, and a very radio-friendly one at that.

Their debut release is full of catchy vocal melodies, crunchy guitars and simple song structure -- the perfect ingredients for commercial success.
It doesn't hurt that they're all relatively young guys, either.

The songs center on lead singer E. Toledo's voice, which defines Trances Arc's sound.

While I try not to pigeonhole artists, it's increasingly difficult to avoid comparisons in the seemingly homogenous realm of alternative rock. Everyone seems to sound somewhat like someone else.

As I listened to the first four tracks, I noticed that Toledo sounds similar to Angie Aparo. This is clearly not a bad thing, especially when citing Aparo's vocal talent and track record.

"The Weekly Picks"

"...enervating rock n' roll!!!"
It’s a rare band that claims both Athens and Atlanta as their hometown, but the guys in Trances Arc have a big enough fan base in both places that either city seems pretty comfortable. The five piece’s biggest ambition these days seems to be to spread the sound westward, and why not - Birmingham Weekly

"Most Requested Band"

"TrancesArc: Probably the most requested local band I get, both on the Locals Only and the regular program. They have an incredible fan-base….” Steve Craig/99x - WNNXFM Atlanta - 99Xpress

"Featured Artist"

The number one reason you should like Trances Arc is because they are influenced by stormy weather, high cell phone bills, Bill Gates, tight underwear, and lastly, The Beatles. Combine these entertaining influences, and you get a solid rock band from Athens and Atlanta. The band, founded in 2001, has gained a steady fanbase throughout the Southeast with opening slots for acts such as Angie Aparo, Unwritten Law, and Cowboy Mouth, along with festivals like Music Midtown, Downtown Rocks, and AthFest. The band's latest 'Save The World' EP is a collection of straight-ahead rock songs - no frills, just earnestly good music that is immensely enjoyable.

Bio

Delivering melodically haunting, rhythmically compelling, song-oriented rock, Trances Arc creates a long-overdue niche in the American popular music landscape. More polished than the numerous neo-punk, garage bands that have emerged in recent years, Trances Arc nonetheless possesses a raw energy and attitude that perfectly compliments its sophisticated yet angular sound. The band’s massive unreleased catalog, coupled with its undeniably mesmerizing stage presence, establishes the foundation for a healthy stake in rock n’ roll real estate.

Raised in and nourished by the legendary Athens, Georgia music scene, the band was formed when singer/songwriter Eric Toledo assembled childhood friends Brad Hagen (percussion), Greg Cavinder (bass), and Ben Allen (guitar) for a 13 song recording session in 1998. Allen, incidentally, had to be coaxed into abandoning a successful hip-hop production career in New York City where he worked for Sean Combs at Bad Boy Records. The first collection of songs, colloquially known as the Under the Couch Sessions, are now recognized as the humble beginnings of the band called Trances Arc.

These first crude recordings established an instant fan-base in Athens, and as the popularity of the Under the Couch Sessions spread to Atlanta, the nascent band followed, increasingly playing small clubs in the Southeast. Blue Maze, an independent Atlanta-based label, soon signed Trances Arc, and the band recorded its first full-length album featuring many songs on the Under the Couch Sessions. Michael Dorio, an established and energetic guitarist from Atlanta, was summoned to help with the recording and has remained a permanent fixture in the band. Since the 2001 release of their first record, Color TV Influential, Trances Arc has become one of the most dominant and credible features on the southeastern rock scene.

Trances Arc continues to captivate audiences with its kinetic live act, which is regularly embraced by venues like the 40 Watt Club (Athens, GA) and Smith's Olde Bar (Atlanta, GA). Additionally, the band enjoys regular airplay on Atlanta radio stations 99X, 96Rock and Album 88.5, as well as 107Q (Columbus, GA).

Trances Arc now strives to expand its solid and loyal fan-base beyond the Southeast. Coming off a year long writing hiatus, Trances Arc is touring regionally and actively promoting their latest unofficial release, the Save the World EP. “Career-making new recordings” (Greenberg/Traurig), garnished with “lush arrangements, unique, [and] heartfelt lyrics” (Atlanta Music Guide), the Save the World EP reflects the band’s Brit rock influence and “Americana Flair” (Demo Diaries). Equally inspired by the works of Jeff Buckley and Radiohead as by the Rolling Stones and the Clash, Trances Arc produces a unique sound that is both catchy and stirring. The group is planning a full-length release in 2005 and hopes that you’ll take a moment to listen.
