TRANSBALKANICA – VERTICAL TAKE-OFF.
According to the critics, Transbalkanica is one of the most interesting phenomena of Moldavian music life in recent years.
The very first album with the similar name – Transbalkanica (2005) made musical critics of Romania, Russia, and the Ukraine speak about virtuous musical breakthrough in the mainstream of ethno-fusion.
Huge interest to creative work of Transbalkanica was acknowledged in above-mentioned countries: they performed at Red Square, (Kremlin), they were the honoured guests at the festival “Cerbul de Aur” in Brasov; as well as in Internet - they got the first prize in the John Lehnon Songwriting Contest.
The name itself actually reflects the content and the concept of their music. Transbalkanica.
Being placed at the crossroads of all possible and impossible roads to Europe, Asia and the Mediterranean area, Moldavia is a unique pot of history.
Ever since ancient times, the vibrating spirits of countless peoples would melt and enter an unpredictable mixture here: Moldavians, Ukrainians, Russians, Armenians, Poles, Gagauzi-Turks, Gypsies, Jews, Greeks, Bulgarians, Kurds, Albanians, Czechs, Germans, Azeri, Tchechnians.
Transbalkanica never stops, whereas the first album is the quintessence of virtuous and rather refined music, the second one aims to easier, nevertheless beautiful and emotionally arresting, gorgeous sound.
The composer and arranger Marcel Stefanet is a virtuous violin player, from a family of ethno musicians. He created an exceptional project based on a mix of Balkan melodies and harmonies with modern bits and sounds.
