"Artist Review"

"What do you get when you mix a healthy dose of soul, rock and roll, and AM gold pop? You get some real heavy music that at the moment seems to have more disparity than most other New York bands. TransLove is certainly unique, that's for sure. They've seen a steady rise in popularity since forming, not only due to the amazing songwriting talent but also due to their red hot live show." - Keith Abrahamsson, Yellow Rat Bastard Magazine - Rat Bastard Magazine

"Preformance Review"

"TransLove Airways has that psych/pop sound with just the right amount of sexy funk thrown in to make it more dancable. I imagine they listened a lot to the Zombies growing up." - www.gothamist.com

"Artist Review"

"the New York City five-piece that's this writer's pick for Next Big Thing. No kidding."Ericka McInytre, CityBeat - CityBeat

"Recordings Review"

Translove is a trip back to the days of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, with flower-painted girls gyrating while the tilted camera zooms in and out erratically - Cincinnati Music Online

Bio

TransLove Airways is not just another rock band.

Visually, this five-piece group is appealingly funky, embodying a free and easy mindset that they all adhere to. Stylish without resorting to gimmicks. 100% natural.

Musically, TransLove Airways excels at weaving a rich tapestry of sounds. They have a lot to draw from as they are all avid music lovers and collectors, and most of the group members are also active DJs. The group is dead-set on purveying a sound that has been all but forgotten by most bands in New York City in 2004: gritty soul, AM radio hits, funky rock 'n' roll, underground disco, and prog-rock are skillfully mixed together in a way that was somewhat common in a time when we listened to AM radio, but is so elusive today. TransLove Airways like a lot of really good, really wrongfully obscure records, they like writing music culled from their diverse influences, and they play their respective instruments with startling mastery.

The group, consisting of Kathleen Cholewka, lead vocals and percussion; Daniel Collas, organ, piano, and vocals; Michael D. Lo, guitar and vocals; Steve Lay, bass; and Jonathan Nigro, drums; began rehearsing in December of 2001, and by the end of the month, they performed their first show at a New Year's Eve party in a Brooklyn loft. Within mere months of that performance, the group was being invited to perform in clubs, art spaces and parties all over New York and Philadelphia. These include Tonic, Joe’s Pub, Don Hill’s, Pianos, NorthSix, Knitting Factory, Southpaw and many others. The versatility of the group’s sound transcends all genres and has allowed them to share the stage with a diverse array of acts ranging from stoned rockers like the Witnesses to urban Afro-funk superstars Antibalas to major label acts like Secret Machines – and appeal equally to all of these audiences. They even found themselves in full-page, full-color splendor in Yellow Rat Bastard Magazine's Oct/Nov 2002 article on the newest wave of NYC's most-talked-about bands. This is staggering considering the fact that the group did not even have a proper demo recording at the time; their reputation was bolstered strictly by live performances and fostered enthusiastically by word-of-mouth.

The above-ground sounds of TransLove Airways now be can be heard on their debut six song CD EP. Listen and hear what people are talking about. Share it with your friends. Think about it, dance to it, and fall in love to it.
