Trash Green originally rocked the London pub and club music scene of the mid nineties. The band’s guitar, keys and driving bass created a sound that was edgy and intense but always musical. Driven by singer Steve’s songwriting the band’s career was pushing forward and culminated in a gig at the Kings Head Fulham where various publishers, managers and A&R men were in attendance. It was just two bars into the second song of the set when bassist, Ric’s, amp packed up. With a patched up bass sound the band played on, but something more than equipment was broken, the band faltered and the gig did not live up to expectations.
For Ric, the disappointment proved too much and after four years in the band he announced his departure. Honouring their commitments Trash Green agreed to play a final dual gig night consisting of a stint at The Water Rats in King’s Cross, followed by a Greenpeace benefit at The Canterbury Arms in Brixton. The band played a storming set at the Water Rats, piled the gear into the van and headed off to Brixton. Fans made their way across the river to catch the second set. It was a great night, tinged with sadness as the band bid farewell to Ric and put Trash Green to slumber. Steve continued writing, playing and singing but eventually ran out of steam and withdrew from the music scene.
Fast forward to 2007 and Steve is feeling haunted by the music of his past. He starts to realise that he wants to gig and record the Trash Green songs. His head is bursting with new songs and new ideas for old songs. He enlists the help of a drummer mate called Stephen Harker and they embark on recording some old and some new material.
Then out of nowhere Steve receives an email. Ric’s mother has sadly died and Ric would like to perform at her funeral (preferably with Steve) a song inspired by a conversation between Steve and Ric’s mum many years before. A shocked Steve says yes and in extraordinarily emotional circumstances Steve and Ric are reunited at the funeral.
So Trash Green lives again. Toby Moore a fresh, new keyboard talent from Brighton hears about the band and a rehearsal is arranged. Six months of rehearsing follow and then Trash Green’s debut gig at The Dublin castle is a resounding, emotional success. Now the band wants to gig, gig, gig and play, play, play.
Music is a beautiful, wonderful thing. All Trash Green wants is to be part of it.
