Bio

When was the last time you were inspired by a sound that speaks to your core? When was the last time you experienced a beauty that makes you crave to live this life to the fullest? We strive unreservedly to share a uniquely honest experience of folk music that speaks to the soul, and which surges the heart with excitement.

Traveler of Home is an alternative indie folk rock band out of the beautifully rustic Northwest city of Spokane, Washington. It is composed of a group of young people whose gracious joy is inspiring others through their gifts of composing and performing music. For these Travelers of Home, music is more than an outlet or a healthy release of positive brain chemicals. It is rather a way to share the love that they are filled with by the meaning they experience in daily living on this big floating globe. They provide an experience of hope, and ignite a desire to pursue the impossible through their exciting and entrancing sound.

The band was formed in 2014 at Gonzaga University, where Mark Houston and Chris Yakawich were freshman at the time. Chris, an intensely passionate songwriter, and obliviously eccentric face-maker (particularly whilst entrenched in the song-singing process) crossed paths with Mark, the face-melting guitar shredder and overall extremely genuine guy, and immediately began writing together. What followed was a series of surprisingly well attended shows, late night milkshakes, journeys of thousands of miles, and the flourishing of a desire to keep playing as much music together as possible.

In 2015, Mark and Chris met a fantastically talented violin player named Sooyoun Park, and asked her if she "wanted to jam sometime." The jamming turned into a jelly which was spread over the future of the band, and the overall vibe of the music. Sooyoun successfully proved herself worthy of the Traveler of Home namesake after rocking the most reminiscent fiddle solo, improvising hauntingly classical violin accompaniment, and garnishing sweet soothing harmonies over a characteristically diverse Traveler of Home set at a Christmas show held at an intimate Spokane Coffeehouse. The band had finally ripened into its complete three vocals to articulate killer harmonies, three hearts to interpret the reality surrounding it, and solidified a pact of strong friendship for which to strengthen the musicians for their daring mission to share their love of music with the world.

The bass player, Christian Linder, was the next addition in 2016, and soon to follow, the 5-piece was solidified when Luke Westermeyer decided to play drums.

Traveler of Home has recorded their first full length album at Amplified Wax Studios in Spokane which is scheduled to release in September 2017.
