Bio

James Margolis grew up in the Philadelphia area, and, after dropping out of Berklee College of Music, cut his teeth on the Philly music scene before relocating to NYC in 2012.

A groundbreaking guitarist, soulful singer, and prolific songwriter with a vast knowledge, and genuine love of blues, folk, jazz, soul, and lots of other types of music.  A member of many bands over the years, notably the Travelers, with whom James hosted The Healing, an all-improvised jam session in Brooklyn which ran for over 2 years.

Throughout his time in New York, James learned a ton from the local music scene.  He learned how to belt like Sinatra while playing finger-style guitar masterfully, busking on the NYC subway platforms and playing countless live shows.  James has toured regionally solo, and recently held a monthly residency with his full band at Jalopy Tavern in Brooklyn at the end of 2022.

James has developed a repertoire of songs that he loves, featuring a goldmine of incredible deep cuts from the blues, folk, jazz, and soul catalogs.  With original songs that are breathtakingly beautiful, and an amazing blend of a deep river of influences.

A student of music, James loves learning songs, sharing them, writing them, and is truly dedicated to the practice.  James plays solo, as a duo, trio, or with a 5-piece band, and will perform an equally incredible show in any iteration.

In addition, he is a renown audio engineer, having worked as a live sound tech, and has produced most of his own material, as well as a few albums for friends: "Longest Road Home" by the Travelers, and "What Matters" by Carissa & The Voodoo Lilies.
