Travesty

Out of the most diverse community in the world, Queens, New York, comes Travesty, a band with a sound that is as accessible as it is aggressive. Playing metal but never conforming to metal, they can pique the interest of a seasoned metal head as well as someone unfamiliar with the genre. They have mastered the balance of consistency and variation and they won’t hesitate to prove it.

Formed in the winter of 2004 by current band leader Jared Losow and then bassist Jonathan Price, Travesty began a two-piece studio outfit releasing a demo later that year. 2005 saw the addition of drummer Mario Contino, who performed on the band’s full length album “Adverse Effects” It was at this time that Travesty began to hit the live circuit and played shows from their hometown of Queens to upstate New York, culminating in a show at the Webster Theater in Connecticut opening for punk rock legends The Misfits in October 2007. During this time, the band continued to write music together.

As the artistic chemistry developed between Losow and Contino, personal obligations forced the departure of Jonathan Price.

Sean Ho had worked with Contino previously and was happy to join the band in November of 2007. The revamped trio is in the process of releasing an EP, tentatively titled “Kunderbali.” For those wondering where such a title came from, just know it is customary in Travesty to play with random words for hours on end. What comes out of it is, well, Kunderbali.

There is a natural sound to Travesty’s music, for they take a natural approach to making it. They have no regard for what is and isn’t “metal” There is no conscious decision to create a metal song, but when the creative juices start flowing in this trifecta from hell, a metal song is what you get. It is in this way that Travesty will extend the boundaries of aggressive music. There are plenty of bands out there thinking outside the box, Travesty’s goal is to enlarge it.
