"Travis Abercrombie-Spin"

Travis Abercrombe- Spin

This twenty-something South Carolina singer /songwriter comes directly to Nashville after a successful run as front man for college frat band Seven Miles. Seems this guy had more potential than the Clemson U. band could support, so in 2001 “Big Trav” came to Nashville to start all over with a solo career.

The photo in his press kit had me expecting someone more country than rock, and I was pleasantly surprised that neither term would be an apt description. After all, he cites favorite artists/influences to be Vertical Horizon, Tonic and U2, among others. Abercrombe sings about lust, obsession, and longing with genuine emotion.

The title cut “Spin” has a full sound (certainly with Tonic overtones), and is about the disorienting effect of a new love. The opening cut “A Little Too Much” has siren-like guitars, great hooks and lusty vocals about that special gal in that special dress that was just a little too…you get it. “Just One Day,” on the topic of longing, is about a guy who just can’t get enough of his gal, and it brought out in me that natural instinct to tap in time and sing along. Like all of his songs, the sound in “Just One Day” is very accessible.

“On My Mind” has a more melodic approach with layered vocals on the chorus. Travis wrote both the lyrics and music on this tune that speaks of the girl you can’t get out of your head. There’s an U2 anthem-like quality to “Please Forgive Me,” with a chiming guitar and lots of sensitivity. The final cut, “Walking in This Life,” is a traveling song of life’s eternal question of purpose, and the natural longing for “home.”

Abercrombe has already played in some well-respected venues in Nashville, and his music still draws bookings back home in S.C. You can pick up his CD at Turtle’s Music on West End, or visit his web site www.travisabercrombe.com and download some mp3’s from this CD and a few from his next “in the works.” Upcoming show dates are Oct. 29 at 3rd & Lindsley (CD release party) at 8:45pm, and Nov.1 at Windows on the Cumberland at 10pm in the tent.

Bio

Travis & Jason are an acoustic duo, and have been playing in bands together (off and on) since 1996...where they got their start at Clemson University as one of Upstate SC’s premier cover bands, Seven Miles. For years, the band played venues like The Handlebar, Esso Club, Wild Wing Cafe, and TD’s...always to packed houses. Over the course of the band's existence, Travis & Jason wrote songs for Seven Miles, and actually released 2 regionally successful albums before the band dismantled in 2001. Travis continued on, and moved to Nashville until 2004, releasing 2 indie albums that won many local awards as the “Critic’s Pick”, and had a few national college radio chart topping singles, like “Spin” and “Elevator Song”. Interestingly enough, even while in Nashville, Jason would frequent Travis’s shows to sit in on lead guitar. Nowadays, Travis has returned to his roots in Greenville, SC where he leads worship for 300 or more people a week at Mauldin United Methodist’s contemporary 'LIVE' service every week. Travis & Jason have also decided to reunite and play as an acoustic duo. And why not?? In the many years of playing in bands together, Travis & Jason’s friendship and professionalism stick out to both concert goers and clients…and all that makes for a great time. Travis & Jason are looking to provide hours of solid acoustic entertainment in family-friendly venues across the Upstate…playing a great mix of classic rock, 80’s, and modern acoustic music…with perhaps a few original songs sprinkled in if requested….all to give our customers a great evening of kicked back, relaxed fun. Book us today, and you'll see the difference that experience AND talent brings to your next event!!
“Travis and Jason did an excellent job for our Soby’s Summer Sizzlin’ Block Party. They did a great job of promoting the event, brought out (by far) the biggest crowd to date, and played a great set of songs that kept the crowd engaged and entertained all night.” -Bubba Britton, event organizer
