Biography

"I wanted movement and not a calm course of existence. I wanted excitement and danger and the chance to sacrifice myself for my love. I felt in myself a superabundance of energy which found no outlet in our quiet life."
- Leo Tolstoy, Family Happiness

The Devil Is Alive and Well
In short, I am a musician, a writer and a lover of both. I am a philosopher, but generally only for myself. I am a vivid dreamer who battles with insomnia. I am a storyteller; an honest liar. I'm an addict, but only to the good stuff. I am a spiritual atheist who believes in retribution through evidence. I am a sinner.

The long version of these attributes can be found in the songs I write. The Lasting Effect is my way of describing the ongoing adventures of my life, the stories of “love and lust, broken-hearts, addiction and my friends.”

The Devil Is Alive and Well will be the first Lasting Effect release and is a chronological collection of these tales. It is not meant to be any sort of statement or concept album, but they are my stories and how I got from Point A to Point B. If anything, it has lead me to my 'Family Happiness' and makes me proud to be the sinner that I am.

Cheers, fellow sinners.

Lyrics

I Got No Soul

Written By: T. Caine

There's a bottle of whiskey at the edge of my bed
It's starring at me and fucks with my head
But I know, I got no soul

Got a one way ticket to the bottom of glass
Answers or not, I'm coming to ask
If you know, I got no soul

And the demons that I drink away are innocent and pure
But it's better if their washed away, I'm sure
And if the devil inside of me dares to take control
I think there's one thing that he should know
I got no soul

Yeah, there's a trainwreck coming in on time
It started at my heart and now it's heading to my mind
Into my mind

And with a little luck and another round
What's going to be lost, will never be found
Resigned, my dear old mind.

Cause my thoughts are punishments for all my deadly sins
So I tip the glass and deal from within
And if my memories try to refuse the final goal
I feel that there's something they should know
I got no soul

And the demons that I drink away are innocent and pure
But it's better if their washed away, I'm sure
And if the devil inside of me, dares to take control
I think there's one thing that he should know
I got no soul

Up North

Written By: T. Caine

Going to head to the country
Follow my dreams and stay close to the earth
Cause my body's not made for the city
And I heard, you were heading there first
And God only knows, I've always been told
I come on a little too strong
So I'm going to try something new, if it's all right with you
I'm going to prove you and God are wrong

Cause I've tried to be happy and I've tried to be tough
I've tried enough to know this isn't love. Not love.
Yeah, I've tried enough to know this isn't love.

Yeah God only knows, I've always been told
To set aside childish things
So I'm going to hit the road with all my things in tow
See what tomorrow may bring

Cause I've tried to be happy and I've tried to be tough
I've tried enough to know this isn't love. Not love.
Yeah, I've tried enough to know this isn't love.

Follow The Pray

Written By: T. Caine

We follow each other still
Hoping, asking, pleading for our lives
And we find the best intentions
Covered in the gossip and the lies
Yeah, we observe from a distance
Grasping, wishing, clawing for a clue
Hungry like a pair of wolves
You follow me, I follow you

I don't know why we ever tried to stayed together
I don't know how we got along
The chase was the interest and the interest was the key
So I'll follow you, you follow me

We stare from across the room
Seeking, thinking, gazing for our minds
While we carry on our conversations
The game is never catch each others eyes
And we claim our territory
Friendships, places, and jealousies
Hungry like two birds of pray
I follow you, you follow me

The Devil Is Alive and Well

Written By: T. Caine

Headed South down to Georgia
On a shoe string budget
That got us into Memphis, Tennessee
With enough to afford a motel room
With no in house luxuries
Just Gideon's Bible, a bed and our own obscenity
You see some men spread the Gospel
I just preach my sins
Of love and lust, broken hearts, addiction and my friends
Yeah

I see no future in running
From things I can't control
And it keeps my mind at ease to know that I got no soul
So, starting from the beginning
Is just the way to go
I know it will lead to my ending
But at least I'll be whole
You see some men spread the Gospel
I just preach my sins
Of love and lust, broken hearts, addiction and my friends
Yeah
Come on
Yeah

You know that I know, these stories may be hard to tell
But if there's one thing I've learned, it's that you simply cannot dwell
And if you asked me what will forsake me straight down to hell
It's that I know, I know the devil is alive and well
Yeah, I know, I know the devil is alive and well

Sinners (Rejoice, Rejoice!)

Written By: T. Caine

We took a westbound train to Kingston
Boarded it at 6am in the morning, I've yet to sleep
I grabbed my flask of whiskey, just to calm my nerves,
I know it's not healthy, but it beats these winding railed curves
Keep in mind, that mind of matter doesn't always work
When all you've got are your thoughts out on the road
One thing I know I'm sure about: is my sins will be the death of me
Just trying to battle these ghosts
God fearing people always try to get themselves saved
Well, I can't say that's something I'll ever do
I'd rather take this train to hell and be amongst my peers
Than change my ways so late in the game
Now who the hell is with me?
A show of hands, let me see where you stand
Be proud of your weakness
Be proud of your sins
Be who you are

So, come on all of you sinners: Rejoice! Rejoice! Don't let it hinder your spirits
We've all got our habits that are hard to break
Yeah, come on all of you sinners: Rejoice! Rejoice! Don't let it bring you down
We've all got our vices and it's our time to live

This Isn't A Love Song

Written By: T. Caine

Oh God, I still remember the taste of your tongue.
It tastes like blood 'cause you've been biting it for so long.
So one more time, baby, let me hear you scream
Tell me how wrong I am and how right you've been

This isn't a love song it's about misery
Let's face it darlin', it's the only thing you ever gave to me
This isn't a love song it's about the pain that you bring
And in regards to you, this will be the last song I ever sing

'Cause you always hated the sound of my voice
And when it came to being happy I never really had a choice
Now I'll see you standing around at my next show
Where I'll be surrounded by people you will never get to know

This isn't a love song it's summing up two God damn years
It's easier this way and, trust me, it's nicer on the ears
This isn't a love song but you can be sure it's about you
It's about telling you my feelings and laying out the truth

Oh you're the best friend I never had.
And never will again.
Yeah, you're the best friend I never had.
And never will again.

So one more time, baby, let me hear you scream.
Tell me how wrong I am and tell me how right you've always been.

This isn't a love song it's about the pain that you bring
And in regards to you, this will be the last line I ever sing.

Resolutions

Written By: T. Caine

Countdown: New Years Eve, it's time to go
Feeling so sick, but at last I'm on my own
Light up a smoke and breathe in the cool, cool air
Last night for resolutions and I don't even care
'Cause I've counted each, each and every single day
They're hard to forget even with my forgetful ways
And who would’ve thought that I'd finally find my place

In a year full of madness, drugs, booze, and actresses
Killer apartments with a tiny bit of space
Fake happy endings and a summer of pretending
Thanks and goodnight, this year was a disgrace

So call it a night, call it whatever you will
Throw in the towel and make way for the bitter pill
Find my way through the darkness till the break of light
Too wide awake to sleep, too tired to put up a fight
'Cause I've seen it all, believe me I've tried and I've tried
Taken the truth only to find out the lies
And who would’ve thought it'd be easy to say goodbye

To a year full of madness, drugs, booze, and actresses
Killer apartments with a tiny bit of space
Fake happy endings and a summer of pretending
Thanks and goodnight, this year was a disgrace

'Cause I've been here before, but never quite like this
Where you close your eyes real tight and then forget to make the wish
And who would’ve thought I'd find it hard to resist

A year full of madness, drugs, booze, and actresses
Killer apartments with a tiny bit of space
Fake happy endings and a summer of pretending
Thanks and goodnight, this year was a disgrace

Dolly Parton Sugarcoated Things

Written By: T. Caine

Pick up the pace, grab the paper, it’s the early morn’
You’ve got people to see and the news to read
You find happiness in your morning cup of coffee
And all the while you search for something more
You’ve got your issues like everyone else
You get to work real early and go home to yourself
And every night you wish you were put on the shelf
Cause tomorrow is going to be just like today

You cut pictures out of your favorite magazines
And wear band t-shirts under your business chic
You’re living for the party at the end of the week
But who knows if you can even last
You’d like to think you’re gonna have the last laugh
Though you’re friends all say you don’t have it so bad
But living 9 to 5 is driving you mad
And soon enough they will understand

You got, got, got no place to go
No one you can call your own
But you’re looking for a chance
And you’re not, not, not quite satisfied
With the way things are going in your life
But you’re looking for a chance

Fall in line, grab a number, it's the wait and see
Put your life on hold for the daily routine
You're longing for the days that you were part of the scene
Yet it seems as though those days have come and gone
But you keep on, keepin' on
Looking for some day that probably won't come
And wishing that you could just pack up and run
But there's always one thing that's holding you back

You got, got, got no place to go
No one you can call your own
But you’re looking for a chance
And you’re not, not, not quite satisfied
With the way things are going in your life
But you’re looking for a chance

Adam & Eve

Written By: T. Caine

If you've got a match, I've got the gasoline; let's start a fire
We can take it down to the city square and cause a riot
'Cause a love like ours only flourishes after carnage and flames
So strike the match and then hold me tight
And as we erase every single thing that ever held us back
Through destruction we'll finally get things right

We'll find ourselves a tiny little hole in the wall
With a perfect view so we can watch the city burn
And when the smoke clears away we can see there's nothing left at all
Except a blank page where I can paint the world anew... in the image of you

So call me Adam, you can be my Eve, and this can be our Eden
Our own private garden where we can live and raise our children
'Cause all it takes is the simple task of tearing this place down
And you know that I'd do anything for you
So let's erase every single thing that ever held us back
Simplify the world to what is true

We'll find ourselves a tiny little hole in the wall
With a perfect view so we can watch the city burn
And when the smoke clears away we can see there's nothing left at all
Except a blank page where I can paint the world anew... in the image of you
