Bio

Travis Wackerly is a 24 year old fiddle player, singer-songwriter, guitarist and mandolin virtuoso from Oklahoma. The unmatched style of Travis’s music comes from the influence of playing many years in traditional bluegrass bands meshed with many years of being in rock bands. Bands that come to mind when trying to relate the music would be groups like Nickel Creek, Flogging Molly, Bright Eyes or Old Crow Medicine Show. This music style would be welcomed by the both MTV and CMT. Old folks enjoy the bluegrass instrumentation, while the rock style vocals and hard hitting drums grab the attention of the younger crowd whose eyes are always glued to what’s hot these days.

The demand for Travis's style has given him the opportunity to open for artists like Earl Scruggs, Miranda Lambert, Ralph Stanley, Randy Rodgers Band, Earl Thomas Conley and many more. In September of 2009 Travis got to play at the world famous Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival in Indiana, which was founded by the father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe, and has a 10+ year waiting list for bands.

Travis also lived in Los Angeles for a short period of time in 2004, while living there he discovered the art of street performing. Many people did street performing and made just enough money to buy their dinner with, but when you have a special talent, it’s easy to get enough tips to be able to pay the enormous amount of rent for a Santa Monica apartment. After leaving the current band he was in, Travis moved back to Oklahoma where he has been pushing it full speed ever since.

In 2009 Travis teamed up with Randy Spencer of Pitch Music, and Producer/Musician Phil Madeira (Emmylou Harris, Buddy Miller, and Amy Grant). Out of that partnership came a very unique, fun, enjoyable CD called “Sinner like me”. A CD where it’s instantly noticeable that you’ve got something more edgy than bluegrass, but not a loss of the bluegrass feel and instrumentation.

Travis’s traveling band “The Postokies” consist of 2 fiddle players, rhythm/lead guitar, drummer & bass. You’ll LOVE the song “Right Now” which is a bluegrass’d up version of R&B song by Akon that will get the clubs hopping, or the song “Sinner Like Me” that will have the older folks and church’s begging for more! So please, turn up the volume & hear the future!

"I've been walking this promenade for over 30 years, and I've never seen talent like this, the way you switch your instruments back and forth and the music never stops"

-Barry, a Santa Monica Promenade walker.
