Get Ready World – Here Comes Travla!
Fasten your seatbelts! Travla’s taking his hip-hop passengers on a POPLAR tour…
Travla is known in the Twin Cities for his dynamic performances at local hotspots like First Avenue, Epic, Seven, Karma, Visage, The Lounge, Imperial Room, Red Sea, Blue Nile, Favor Café , Arnella’s, Baggan’s Pub, Music Box Theatre, Elixir, Cabooze, even the notorious Metrodome. His music has also been featured on popular urban radio stations, B96 and KMOJ. And his team consists of Minnesota’s most sought after talents such as producer Mark G/Marcus Goode CEO of All Goode Music, Producer T-Lace, Zone of Zone Beatz, artist manager Paul Bolen, and national recording artists P.O.S. and Lil Buddy.
How Travla landed on the Twin Cities’ map is another story. He was born in Chicago at Cook County Hospital on August 7, 1984, but was not taken home by his birth parents. Instead, he was adopted by Thomas and Cynthia Tillman and they named him Timothy. Later down the road, Thomas and Cynthia adopted another child, Jeniece, and the family moved to Atlanta.
When they settled in, Travla auditioned and was accepted into the renowned Atlanta Boy Choir. The choir performed in front of crowds of more than 10,000 people. Travla was only 9-years-old and this was his first exposure to live musical performances. He was even assigned solo parts. His natural talent had been discovered.
Unfortunately, however, Thomas and Cynthia divorced when Travla was 12-years-old. The children remained with Cynthia, but they set off to Selma, Georgia. That’s where Travla found another musical outlet – the Selma High School Philharmonic Choir – one of the best touring choirs of the south. The choir was so remarkable that they were invited to perform on Black Entertainment Television.
After Travla’s sophomore year in high school, he and his mother and sister were on the move again. This stop would be Memphis. But trouble followed Travla, or rather, Travla followed trouble. He got expelled in 12th grade and found himself in a juvenile hall. When he was released, he completed high school. Yet, just when it seemed Travla was back on track, he managed to mingle with trouble once again. That’s when Cynthia sent Travla to live with Thomas who relocated to Minneapolis.
Thomas warned the now grown Travla that he would put him out the moment he messed up again. So what did Travla do? He messed up again! As promised, Thomas put him out.
It took Travla to be out on his own to focus and figure things out. He started to take his life and music seriously, met positive people in the local music circuit, and completed his debut album, “His-Story/On Time Arrival.”
