Feeling a bit camera shy

Sharing a common goal of igniting funky danceable Rock, Rhythm and Blues music, T.Ray and the Shades formed in the spring of 2005 in Portland, Oregon. Their emphasis is on live performance and getting the bar dancing.

Lead singer and lyricist T. Ray has enjoyed singing for many years. She studied voice at PSU. She’ll show you the moves; she'll take you by the hand and share with you her thoughts in the plan at hand.

Drummer, band leader, and creative force, Matt Murray has a recordings studio, plays guitar, writes music, lyrics and contributes largely to the songwriting, organization and booking of T.Ray and the Shades.

Keyboard player Andy Hoke is a native of Colorado and Virginia. He came to Portland nine years ago and earned a degree in philosophy and music from Reed College. He now teaches music and also plays in a band called Ramblin’ Rose.

Guitarist Dave Nicolardi grew up in Pennsylvania. He studied music in L.A. and after completing the program, moved to Portland. He plays old school funk lines and burning blues licks. A self-proclaimed intellectual, Dave spends most of his time finger painting and reading picture books.

Saxophonist Scott Johnston is new to the Portland scene. He has played professionally in San Francisco the last 18 years. He received his BA in Music from CSU Hayward. He has taught junior high band and orchestra since. Scott also plays in the band Professor Gall.

Bass player Loren Wohlgemuth loves funk, jazz and classic rock. He majored in music in college and has been in a wide variety of bands ever since. He has a real day job and focuses on funk'n it up.

T. Ray and the Shades have evolved their sound and their set through performances at The Dublin Pub, The Landmark, Mt. Tabor, Berbati's Pan, Ash St. Saloon, International Club Mummy, The Good Foot, The Roseland Theater, Horning’s Hideout and The Crystal Ballroom. T. Ray and the Shades are eager to light up the stage throughout the Northwest.
