For the past few days, Tre Mutava’s cell phone hasn’t stopped buzzing.

A TikTok video from the Lenexa musician and SM Northwest 2020 grad went viral last weekend, and the NFL even used his audio for a post during a nationally-televised game. Mutava’s clip reached 1 million views in one day. To date, it has more than 2.6 million views. - Shawnee Mission Post

The video also reached 1 million views in its first day being posted reaching an amazing 2 million views by the next day. Things escalated quickly and became quite overwhelming for Mutava. While scrolling through comments only days after posting the video one caught his eye. - SMNW

Ambient Vibes had the opportunity to ask Tre' Mutava a Kansas-based artist some questions. I hope you enjoy it!

What is your creative process like?

Typically I'll have the idea for a song in my head and I'll record the melody on my phone before I can get into the creative space to actually produce. Then I start layering sounds until I'm able to achieve what I'm looking for.

Tell us a little more about you. Where are you from?

I was born in Marietta Georgia and moved to Lenexa Kansas when I was about 5. I've grown up in Lenexa since. I started making music when I was 12. I'm currently 19 years old.

You recently released "GO!" What is the backstory of the song?

"GO!" was birthed when I was 16 years old. I had the idea when I first heard Jon Bellion sample the word "low" on his hit record "All Time Low" after hearing it I wanted to create a song where the melody was created with one word being sampled. So I created that "GO!" sample of my voice when I was 16 and never changed it. I did re-write the song a few times before releasing it since my writing has improved a lot in the last 3 years. After producing for a while I realized that the song was missing something, so I emailed Isaac Peabody (PEABOD) to feature on it and he absolutely tied the whole thing together.

What is your favorite song to perform?

My favorite song to perform right now is probably "Best Year" since the audience always gets excited when the intro plays and then they scream out the lyrics to chorus every time we play it.

Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow in your footsteps?

My advice to any aspiring artist is to only take advice from people you want to become like. You wouldn't take songwriting advice from someone who doesn't write music or dance lessons from someone who can't dance. This will also help you receive constructive criticism without taking it too hard. A lot of people wanna see you succeed but not everyone can help you get there. Another thing: Love the art in yourself not yourself in the art.

If you could bring back any fashion trend what would it be?

Are crocs out of style? If so I'd bring those back because I never got to own any when all my friends had them.

The zombie apocalypse is coming, who are 3 people you want on your team?

If there were a zombie apocalypse I'd want Dwayne The Rock Johnson on my team because he's Dwayne The Rock Johnson, a zombie that turned good because then he could help navigate the playing field, and Jesus cause I can go through straight Hell here on Earth and still come okay if I have Him.

Which musician or producer would you like to collaborate with?

I think it would be pretty cool to work with guys like Hans Zimmer or really any major film composer cause I always enjoyed adding a cinematic feel to my music and I think it would be awesome to score a film one day. - Ambient Vibes
