Everyone has a reason to hold on to the lyrics of a favorite song….the passion, the pain, the rejoicing or the release that you feel when you hear the song that sends you completely over the top. Keeping these reasons private is something that each of us knows so much about. But sharing these reasons with the world is something that Zoe Wilks has mastered through his lyrical talents and soulful vocals. With musical influences such as Frankie Beverly, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and of course, Michael Jackson, there is no need to wonder why this hot R&B artist out of VA (by way of the South Carolina Coast) has been able to blaze a trail into the world of R&B/Hip-Hop.
At a very young age, Zoe had dreams of inspiring others to keep it real in their love and life relationships - experiences that he knows oh so much about. While other kids were aspiring to become firefighters and soldiers, Zoe was busy mimicking the vocals of legendary R&B and Soul singers… and performing at local talent showcases and in his family based church. Throughout his career, he’s shared the stage with a lot of main stream artists – an industry resume which includes an appearance on Showtime at the Apollo, opening act performances for Jagged Edge, Brandi, Keith Sweat, Carl Thomas, and Montel Jordan with his family-based group called Dejour. This type of showmanship, at such a young age, would have one to believe that maintaining such a solid focus on creating music and working in the industry comes to Zoe as naturally as the air that he breathes.
In 2003, after starting his own independent label, Tre-Day Entertainment (named after his son and daughter), new avenues began to open up with the release of his debut album entitled “The Situation”. The release of this album was a defining moment in Zoe’s career and proved to be the true meaning of stepping out on faith and believing in your talents. The album did exceptionally well within the first few months of release, selling records all over the world and creating an international fan base. The success of his solo project was the catalyst for moving forward and making the necessary life changes in order to see his real dreams come to fruition.
With faith, a dream and a solid independent debut album under his belt, Zoe took fate into his own hands and made a move to Newport News, Virginia where he worked on the release of a second album from his independent label entitled Southern Hospitality Mixtape Vol. 1 2007, a blend of street and soul that appealed to a diverse community of listeners. Following the distribution of the mixtape, Zoe went back into the studio to polish his craft and began writing Pleasure and Pain 2010. Teaming up with Grammy Award winning producer, Rio (courtesy of Savant Soundz), he recorded the soon to be released new single “Pain”, a deep and inspiring song about the pain of loss and the power of pressing on through your struggles by faith – an account written as therapy in dealing with the sudden death of his own daughter. His musical journey has also led him to opening performances for such artists as Jazmine Sullivan and Carl Thomas and collaborations with the R&B/Hip Hop duo Mullage and rapper Quan.
The official video for Pain is set for release in October 2010. A Haiti tribute video featuring Pain was released in the aftermath of the tragic occurrences in the island country.
