"SceneSC Review"

"Trees on Mars play to impress by creating intriguing sonic landscapes, with compositions focusing on intricate guitar work that always seems fitting for the song, never in a boastful strutting way. 'The Sapling' is clean and tight just like it should be, setting roots and paving a road for a future that shows room for growth from the band stylistically." - David Stringer

Bio

Trees on Mars is an instrumental rock band based in Columbia, SC. With a heavy emphasis on dual guitar parts that play off one another, Trees combines everything from hard rock riffs, stop on a dime time signature changes, and ambient post rock soundscapes. Fans of Trees have come to expect a precise live show described as passionate and uplifting, captivating audiences throughout northeast, southeast, mid-west, and southwest USA. Trees on Mars has shared the stage with such bands as Consider the Source, Trioscapes, Felix Martin, The Fine Constant, and Disrhythmia.

Though formed in 2013, the original roots for Trees on Mars were sown in Las Vegas, NV in 2012. Guitarists Grant Tyler and Hayden Graham relocated from SC for a change of pace and a new taste of life. During their time in Vegas the two made their living busking, writing songs that would eventually form the first batch of material found on “The Sapling”, Trees’ debut album. Eventually returning to SC, the two solidified a full line-up for the band, joined by Scott Barber to round out the rhythm section.

In early 2014, Trees on Mars recorded their debut album at Audiohammer Studios with acclaimed producer Eyal Levi. Through Eyal’s guidance and a guest solo from Australian progressive guitar phenom Plini, the album turned heads upon its release in November 2014. Track “In the Wake” was featured on NailtheMix, an educational website for audio engineers, run by producers Joey Sturgis, Eyal Levi, and Joel Wanasek. A playthrough video for track “Ode to the Vulture” was filmed in Cherokee National Forest in North Carolina and was subsequently featured on progressive music blog HeavyBlogisHeavy.

In June of 2016, Trees released the first single off their sophomore album, “Hello, Mr. Pioneer”, recorded with producer Jamie King. The track “Do You Ever Just Wanna?” featured a lighter post-rock sound new to the band, while retaining elements from the prog sound established on the first album. A follow up single “Tapioca Daydreams” is due to release in November 2016, while the album will release in 2017. With plans for heavy touring in 2017, Trees on Mars will surely continue to make new fans across the US.
