"Passion over boundaries of genres"

"TREF communicates in their own language"

"TREF takes you into a Fellini film"

"Rock dance groove on accordion!"

Three professional diatonic accordionists, Didier Laloy, Bruno Le Tron and Wim Claeys joined forces with drummer/percussionist Fred Malampré to make a relative good range of accordion dominated music, showing some of the possibilities of such a cooperation.

Several times the accordions succeed to add an almost rock dance groove to their tunes, not even needing much of an additional rhythm to have that, and getting most power from the accordions, with the necessary breaks, and calmer moments. Just a few such tracks have also drum or percussive ideas, changing folk/rock to a more modern dance rhythm.

Of course we also have all the traditional formats known for the accordion, like waltzes and polkas, there is enough alternation and dialoguing ideas not to fall back on pattern based music alone, but to have something fresh in the progression of the movements. -

"A creative mix of styles and sounds"

The accordion turns out to be a beat box, a sample machine, a melancholic monster and a melodic multi functional instrument and Tref shows all those sides in a creative mix of styles and sounds.

"TREF is an impressive accordion group"

The ostinato sound of "Tour" serves as a kind of refrain, one that's evocative of Phillip Glass's soundtrack for Koyaanisqatsi, but while waiting to return to that recurring theme the group goes off in other directions.
Tref is an impressive accordion group that explore the limits of the instrument through unusual sounds that hint at jazz, traditional, and rock rhythms while making room for occasional dabs of humor.

2001: Accordéon Diatonique

2006: Loop to the Moon

2012: Dampf

Träff : an encounter in Swedish
Tref : the same, but in Dutch
TREF: The encounter between Bruno Le Tron, Didier Laloy and Wim Claeys on the diatonic accordion and Frédéric Malempré on persussion. For ten years now, TREF has been an engine of transgressing musical research in Folk Music. These ambassadors of virtuosity have already seen a great part of the world. Concerning folk music, they played with all the great musicians of their time. In Belgium they found their way to all big stages, from Nekkanacht in Antwerp to the Montreux Jazz Festival, while passing Francofolies in Spa, the festivals of Saint-Chartier (F) and Dranouter,… In 2002 the group received the Klara Music Price.

These 4 passionated musicians fill their dialogue with traditional rythms, Jazzy harmonies, touching melodies and rocking grooves. In short, TREF is considered as a unique music genre, accompanied by a distinguished amount of Belgian humor on stage.

Today: TREF proudly presents its third album ‘DAMPF’, full of steaming music which continuously pursues its current course: three accordions and a lot of percussion in search of the limits of their possibilities and joined action.

TREF, the Belgian reference for diatonic accordion music, is a group whose name might be taken quite literally. This energetic collective consists of Bruno Le Tron, Didier Laloy and Wim Claeys on diatonic accordion and Frédéric Malempré on percussion. For ten years now, this quartet has been an engine of transgressing musical research concerning Folk Music. After ‘TREF’ and ‘Loop to the moon’, today, TREF proudly presents its third album ‘DAMPF’.
