Bio

Imagine Scott Walker fronting The Associates and then covering David Bowie’s Cat People but straight outta Kernow, writes Lee Trewhela. Sounds like your new favourite group, right?

Well, Trelawney (what about that for a name to make you proud?) became mine within seconds of hearing their Beast of the Black Heaht and its strange, new romantic tribal yelp of “ you shall know the leopard”.

By third song, the oh-so-English bu t strangely alien Under A Black Flag – a Kernewek counsin to Eno’s Before and After Science – I was wondering where thei band had been all my life. Trelawney is the brainchild of London-based expat Benjamin Trelawney Erik Reynolds, whose namesake bishop also went to London but with a rebellion, leading to the anthem of the same name. Reynolds has a few anthems of his own up his sleeve and is himself rebelling against mediocrity in much of today’s pop music.

With inspiration as varied as John Cale, Nankersey Male Voice Choir, Stanley Spencer, Julian Cope, tweed and Gwithian Towans, Benjamin is producing something very rousing and very exciting.
