"Review: “Not Ashamed” by Tre Nelson"

Whenever I listen to Gospel music that has an R&B or hip hop typle of flavor, I always end up asking myself the following question. “Will this music be appreciated by the Christain community?” The answer I normally come up with is “probably not.” (This is a topic for future discussion)

I recently listened to an album entitled Not Ashamed by Tre Nelson. This album has a R&B type of feel that many Christian music consumers probably won’t appreciate. Unfortunately, they will likely miss the many quality messages that are contained in this album.
The song “Relationship” talks about how the need for us to forget about our past. We have all made mistakes in life. Those mistakes should not be our focus. It is important that we focus on God.
One of my favorite songs on the entire album is “You”. This song is a great reminder of God’s love for us. All we need to do is reach out to God and he will show us his love in a powerful way.
There is a lot to like about this album. I already mentioned the strong messages. In addition to that, Tre Nelson has a very good voice and the music production is high quality.
This album has one slight drawback, depending on your perspective. I know many people are getting tired of hearing songs in autotune. While I’m not sure if autotune is exactly what was used, there were times when the vocals sounded synthesized. I could be wrong on this one, but for the most part I think that the Gospel music crowd likes hearing naturally sung vocals.
In spite of a couple of synthesized vocals, thing this is a quality album. Tre Nelson doesn’t just put out music with nice beats to make us move. This music has real substance. I truly believe that this is music that will help elevate your mind and strengthen your spirit. - The Gospel Blog
