Bio

In a world finding safety in comfort zones, up-and-coming band, Trichome, does not hesitate to branch out and experiment. Based out of Northern Colorado, the self-proclaimed “world-jam-reggae” band never settles for complacency. This 6-member outlet strives for constant improvement and evolving their sound to the next level. Lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Evan Daldegan, describes their mish-mash of influences best: “If our music is a tree, the trunk of the tree is reggae—roots and dub. From there, there are many branches, all of different styles.” Despite their diverse sound palate, the process and execution remains organic. Tenor saxophonist and keyboardist, Michael Windham adds, “Nothing feels forced. There is not one main songwriter—our music is a collaborative effort. That’s the advantage of our diverse musical backgrounds.” From fan favorites like “Story” to trance jam groove “1601” to Fela Kuti and Bill Withers covers, Trichome is sure to draw a crowd that is dancing and craving the next big thing in this transcendental music project.

Trichome has already made a heavy dent in expanding their following. This past year alone, the group has opened for Giant Panda Gurilla Dub Squad, Dub Skin, Midnite, Juno What?!, Mountain Standard Time, and The Original Wailers. They have also headlined shows at Hodi’s Half Note, The Aggie, and the Mishawaka Indoor Stage. Currently, they are working on their full-length debut album at Colorado Sound Studios with producer Jesse O’Brien to be released in early 2010. Part of their progressive style is always coming up with new ideas to freshen up their sound. In the studio, Trichome is spicing things up with the additions of Leah Concialdi on baritone saxophone, Tom Cudmore on trombone, and Tanner Robinson on trumpet. The new horn section not only thickens up harmonies on the album, but has begun playing live shows with the band and has been positively received.

With a vast following in the Northern Colorado music circuit, it is undeniable that Trichome has the capability of taking off. 2010 promises to be a good year for Trichome with the debut album release and sights of playing as many festivals as possible. Their last show at The Aggie drew a 483-person crowd which exceeded the band’s expectations and was considered a huge success. The band’s texture and hard-driving rhythms erupt from even harder driving ambition consequently creating a reactive response and energetic rapport with the audience. No matter what your expectations are, Trichome is guaranteed to veer away from normalcy and generate a positive experience full of nothing but good times.
