"Style Crossing Duo"

Triflesky are a veritable ting and tong of mischievious anarchy with a sampler and any instrument going. - south wales argus

"amanda guestlist presents Triflesky"

Glastonbury veterans Triflesky are a Welsh brother and sister duo who intertwine loops and melodies using vocals, saxes and a host of soundmaking devices to create sounds which span chillout/dance to what they decribe as 'ragga-punk-phunk'. - Dublin Fringe festival

"Triflesky"

Triflesky, anarchistic hippy noodlers armed with any instrument they can find, love to manipulate sound and are making some of the most creative sounds in South Wales at the moment.. - Buzz Magazine

"Taste of Triflesky"

Eclectic and mellow they're a first class, breezy, jazzy, break beat band in the making. Thats break beat as in Blue Note and other 60's jumping jazz. The duo leap between instruments, Bev sings, raps and wails like she's just walked out of Sly and The Family Stone's studio. - Buzz Magazine

Bio

Coming from an Arts background, I began working in music from late 80's, playing clarinet in a pentecostal church. In early 90's started working as the third female harmony and sax player for Blues Sisters, performing boogie woogie, rhythm 'n' blues, Andrews Sisters and rock'n'roll. Worked several support slots in bands supporting artists Ruby Turner, Georgie Fame, Gail Lee Lewis, Paul Jones, Van Morisson, Big Town Playboys and many festivals throughout the UK.

In the late 90's , worked in boogie woogie/ rhythm and blues band Rocket 88's as saxophonist and vocalist, performing throughout Britain at rock and roll venues and clubs including London's 100 Club .

Influenced by an eclectic taste of music - reggae, dub, jazz, punk, funk, rock, opera, disco: I began working as Triflesky from 1998 - 2000, creating dance/electronica/groove based tunes, my brother Mark moved back from a 10 year stay in France, built a studio and worked alongside me on loop programming, mixing and drums. We brought in musicians for live work, performed at several festivals including Glastonbury and Dublin Fringe, had tracks featured on Rob Da Bank's Radio One show in 2006, and released EP's and CD albums independently.

Since 2007 I have worked as a solo artist, writing/recording and performing both as a jazz vocalist and saxophonist, on session work for other bands and also with my original electronica/dance set. Musicians are brought in for live work and recording.

2007 - 2009: Worked with Italian pianist Davide Logiri in Milan and Wales, performed at several venues and recorded a demo EP in Milan. Davide has worked at Brecon Jazz with myself and saxophonist Andrew Fawcett.

Recent work includes annual performances at Brecon Jazz, Radio Wales appearances - songs performed live for Dame Shirley Bassey Day, plus live tuition on sax for presenter Mal Pope to introduce Brecon Jazz Festival.

Recent session work includes a tour with London/Paris based band Ebony Bones performing at the Roundhouse, Camden; Beijing and Shanghai Expo. Worked in September/October 2010 in the UK with dub reggae studio legend Mad Professor and London based band Pama International. Planning to work with Mad Professor in November at his studio Ariwa Sounds, in London.

Adaptable and enjoy improvising and working with new musicians, creating a sound that suits the performance, striving to promote originality, and to add humour to the music and performance, plus audience interaction.

Performed at Brecon Jazz in 2003 and 2004 with Les Minouches Atomiques, a band put together by one of the founder members of the Heavy Quartet - Phil Boucherat.
Released a cd of Phil's original music to distribute whilst performing at Brecon.
Since performed on Brecon Fringe events at various venues including The George Hotel and Castle Hotel for consecutive years from 2007-2011.

TEACHING: I run jazz workshops at venues and festivals that allow beginners to participate in making music. Currently run weekly sessions for learner adults at venues in Newport and Cardiff. The workshops introduce basic jazz and blues tunes to learners, and give them a taste of working as a group and a basic introduction to improvisation. I look for opportunities for the learners to perform at local festivals, these have included Caerleon Arts festival, Pontypool Jazz Festival and Maindee Festival. I also put on specific musical events for the workshop musicians to use their perfomance skills and perform with pro players in front of an audience.

ART: completed BA Hons degree in Art in 2000, still work occasionally as a visual artist. Enjoy working in screenprint, photography and mixed media, and music is often the subject matter, particularly jazz. This knowledge is also used for my CD visuals.
