Featuring GRAMMY WINNING Band leader, Felipe Borrero, Trio4mas is an Austin, TX based Sonero Jazz band that performs in configurations of three to six players. Sonero Jazz blends the excitement of instrumental Latin Jazz with sonero improvisational singing from Salsa music. The band treats this improvisational form of singing as an equal partner with the instrumental improvisations. This approach to vocals in a Latin jazz ensemble is unprecedented and distinguishes Trio4mas as an innovator even as it deepens its connection to the Afro-Caribbean tradition.
Trio4mas interprets all genres of Latin music, blending the styles and rhythms of Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Puerto Rican roots music with the excitement and improvisation of American Jazz. By combining the hot sounds of salsa, samba, mambo, boleros, cha-cha-chas, funk and jazz, Trio4mas presents a fresh musical perspective with a distinct energy all its own. The group brings this pan-cultural approach to their performance of both Latin and jazz standards as well as their own original compositions.
The members of Trio4mas bring their talents from the musical traditions of Puerto Rico, Brazil, Cuba and the U.S. Their collective expertise combines the Afro-Caribbean traditions of Puerto Rico and Cuba, the percussive improvisation of Brazil and the roots of Jazz, Funk, and R & B from the USA, resulting in sound that has an authentic Caribbean foundation but is exciting, innovative and unique.
The primary instrumentation of Trio4mas is comprised of Flugelhorn, Piano, Guitar, Bass and Percussion with vocal Sonero. This flexible ensemble allows for a wide energetic range while providing the depth to perform a multitude of styles in an improvisational format.
