Bio

Trio Curupira is formed by young musicians and composers of the state of Sao Paulo, which have exhibited to audiences outside of Brazil and one of the most creative works of instrumental genre.
Curupira was born in mid-1996, a happy meeting of ideals and affinities of its members: André Marques (pianist Hermeto Pascoal's group from 1994), Fabio Gouveia and Cleber Almeida. Determined to develop a different work, the result of musical and cultural research, based on the authentic music of Brazil, they travel all the rhythms and eliminate any boundary between colors. The sound is dense, the harmony is rich and personality is remarkable. The name was chosen because it refers to the mythical character of Brazilian folklore charged with protecting the forests and animals. The trio took a similar mission: the defense of Brazilian music and culture. "We started with a concept totally focused on Brazilian music, but we realize that the prejudices against music. We play rhythms from all over Brazil, but we are open to influences, the music is classical, jazz, flamenco and Arabic music. Music is music "said Andrew Marks.
Another great feature of the trio is the huge variety of tones due to heavy exchange of instruments both in concert and on recordings. In their presentations are used to training traditional trio (piano, bass and drums) and others with flutes, ukulele, guitar, percussion, melodica, among other instruments.

For members of the Trio Curupira, the great cultural mix that exists in Brazil allows the blending of various elements of cultures as diverse as Indian, African, European and Arabic, among others. "Few were interested in exploring this subject, inserted in all segments of our culture. We want to bring to the public - through sounds resulting from our inherited cultural plurality - a unique and original music, which only Brazil has," they explain.
With two CDs recorded, the trio, in March 2008, toured across Argentina, to launch his third project also published there, the MDR Records label, album released in Brazil in early 2009, the CD " PÉS NO BRASIL, CABEÇA NO MUNDO ", with widely disseminated in the local press and critical acclaim.
Even before being released in Brazil, "PÉS NO BRASIL, CABEÇA NO MUNDO" received a nomination for the 2008 Latin Grammy.
In 2009 he was nominated for the Award Brazilian Music (formerly TIM Festival).
This CD contains only music from other Brazilian composers, what differentiates the two previous works, when most music was composed by the trio.
