"Promising..."

"Tripmeter is a perfect example of how an independent music business can
work. They're setting a good example in a changing industry that holds
nothing but promise for hardworking artists. It's nice to see/hear a band
build themselves from the ground up like they have."

""No Sign of Stopping for Tripmeter""

Nothing is going to stop Tripmeter from rising to the top. This indie band has proved that its music’s energy, maturity, unique, alternative rock sound, and lyrics are enough to make theirs a respected name in the Western Canadian rock scene—even without a label.
The band started with a group of students from Briercrest College in tiny Caronport, Saskatchewan. Sure, they had talent, and lots of it. But most of all, they had something coveted in the music business, something no band, no matter how unique or gifted, can survive the long haul without: Drive. Determination. The resolve to do what they love—play the best music they know how, the kind of music they’d like to listen to—until they literally can’t anymore.
The band started playing the local scene in and around Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. That’s where their success began, where audiences first indicated that Tripmeter put on a show worth watching again. It wasn’t just about the music—it was about them, their message, and their energy.
“We love the power music has to communicate and connect—that we can walk into a place knowing no one, and come off stage having made new friends,” says drummer Nathan Wall. “It's such a rich medium for artistic expression and communication.”
And that is what they do, both on stage and in recording. From a little back room with only a handful of sound equipment, they put out a polished, dynamic, full-length CD entitled Wide World Crashing just over a year after the group formed. It featured ten original songs. One track, “My Addiction,” was recently featured on the WCMA 2007 Moose Jaw Sampler CD and will also appear on the Invisible Children benefit CD. Another track, "Nothing Matters", is currently receiving radio airplay in eastern Canada. Not bad for the little group from rural Saskatchewan.
Their success continues to climb. They tour almost every weekend, they were a primary act on this year’s TeleMiracle, and they competed against 38 other bands in Broadway’s BandWarz IV in Saskatoon—which they won. Even after having to replace two valuable band members and deciding to introduce keys to their sound in the middle of the competition—disastrous for some bands—Tripmeter came out on top. “It was a challenge for us,” said Wall. Funny that. They made the redefinition of their group and their sound seem like a tiny bleep. And now they’re hotter than ever.
Their victory means they’ll be recording a music video this summer and opening at X-Fest near Brandon, Manitoba in August, where they’ll play alongside the likes of 3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mudd, and Theory of a Deadman. They’ll also be releasing yet another full-length album in mid-fall.
For this young band, there doesn’t seem to be any sign of stopping—they’re not such a little band from small-town Saskatchwan anymore. Their future waits bright, promising, just within reach. It’s no wonder they say, “We can't wait to see where this road takes us.”

"Tripmeter releases new album Thursday"

Times-Herald (Moose Jaw)
Regional, Wednesday, February 4, 2009, p. A2

Tripmeter's drummer, Nathan Wall,
has learned many lessons while on the road with the band. He's learned he makes funny faces while focused on the beat.
"People come up after shows and ask me why I look so weird. I guess I get so into it. I emote a little," Wall said with a laugh.

The alternative-pop rock band from
Caronport has also learned to reserve judgment before a show.
"Sometimes you get a feel for when a gig will be a letdown, or not so good. We were at a show in Manitoba last summer and we'd psyched ourselves down," Wall said.

The show featured a Canadian Idol
contestant who'd been eliminated
from the show. The band resolved to do their best and play a good set. They ripped into the first few chords and were amazed. "There were a dozen or so people in
the audience who knew all our songs and all the lyrics and they sang along with each song," Wall said. "They spread that energy through the crowd and they got into it. It was one of our best shows ever."

The band has come a long way since forming in 2006. The members, Jason Bergeron, Jake
Chitouras, Mark McLeod, Jared
Martens and Wall all met at Briercrest College in Caronport.

The band's first album, Wide World
Crashing, was nominated for a
Western Canadian Music Award and
its sophomore album, The End of
Everything We Are, is set for release Thursday.

"The album titles sound so
apocalyptic, but that's not what they are. It's been an intense year for all of us. There's been a lot of death, dealing with the loss of loved ones. Songwriting becomes so autobiographical, it's always those things mulling around in the back of your head," Wall said.
The album covers the last five months of the band members' lives. Wall described it as a response to getting older and feeling the weight of change, loss and tragedy.
Tripmeter has been integrating the
newest songs into its live shows to
measure the response of fans. Wall is certain fans will enjoy The End of
Everything We Are.

"There's these times in these shows, something that happens live when you're playing. You capture that energy, that shared experience the audience becomes a part of the show . . . when you're playing with the people and not just for them," Wall said.

The band is celebrating its CD release party in Caronport on Thursday. Indiefolk artist Andy Shauf will be making an appearance. The band's next show is slated for the Youth Quake conference at Briercrest College on Feb. 20 to Feb. 22, followed by a Western Canadian tour and a Moose Jaw show in March.

And what's next? "Ultimately? (We want) to go on the road for six months of the year," Wall
said. "We want to get to a place where we can build a community and see those fans grow."

Bio

If you know Tripmeter then you know that they leave half of themselves on stage every night. This Moose Jaw, SK based five piece rock act is quickly gaining renown for its blistering live performances, complete with a stunning homespun midi-controlled light show.

In the midst of the sweat and sweeping beams of light what you hear is a mélange of searing synth lines, fuzzed out drop-tuned baritone guitars and dual lead vocals. And their album The End of Everything We Are fills that sonic landscape with songs that embrace the apocalyptic, the satirical, and the heartfelt.

Recent Accomplishments:

Tripmeter took first place in Saskatchewans largest Battle of the Bands. Judged by A&R reps from major labels, they won the title even though they played the finals with new band members - the true test of talent.

Tripmeter nominated for Western Canadian Music Award in 2008.

Tripmeter's second disc was recently nominated for a 2009 Western Canadian Music Award.

"Who Rises" (from second album) sat at the top of the IndieCharts for 6 weeks running. In turn, they were features on Mike Cameo's Top 10 Pop (June edition) radio show.

"Twilight Love" selected for the soundtrack of MCM Studios new Indie Feature Film (to be released in the US & Mexico).

Tripmeter lands a 2009 GMA Nomination for "Rock/Alternative Album of the Year".
