This Protection Island, BC, resident hails from just across the water in Courtenay on Vancouver Island. "Dawson's Tumble" is a collection of traditional fiddle tunes and original compositions. There's also a cover of Richard Thompson's Fairport classic, "Farewell Farewell."
Clair-Peck is joined, among others, by Rick Scott on dulcimer, Terry Boyle on guitar, and Paul O'Brien on guitar, mandola, and bodhran. This is a solid recording, but not particularly rootsy. Her background is classical music and many of the arrangements lean towards that set of influences, such as on the stately "Night Crossing." Fiddler Trish Clair-Peck lives on an island off the coast of British Columbia, and there's a wide-open feeling in her music on "Dawson's Tumble" (self-released 2007), her first release of traditional and original tunes. The music blends Irish, Scottish, Quebecois and Scandinavian sources and influences with an often elegant touch, as in the darkly moody "Night Crossing," on which fiddle, two violas and dulcimer combine in a stately air, and the sweet lullaby "A Nest for Niall," written with obvious affection for her son. - Dirty Linen #135 April/May 2008

Trish Clair-Peck's debut recording, Dawson's Tumble, was nominated for Best Instrumental Album (solo) at the 2007 Canadian Folk Music Awards. The album features favorite traditional fiddle tunes plus 7 original compositions. The CD was recorded and mixed in the unique community of Protection Island by Anthony Maki (www.etchedinsound.com) with a cast of talented Vancouver Island musicians: Rick Scott, Paul O'Brien, Terry Boyle, Veronica Wagner, Anthony Maki, Chris Helman, Charity Munro and Andrea L'Heureux.
The music Trish plays is joyful and lively, and her performance is at once high-energy and imbued with a sense of intimacy. Trish is joined onstage by
vocalist Charity Munro, and together they present a wonderful mix of original songs and tunes inspired by age-old Celtic traditions, but reflecting the unique sounds of the West Coast folk music movement.
In addition to performing her tunes, Trish enjoys giving fiddle workshops to all ages and levels of players. Recently, Trish has given workshops focussing on Irish, Quebecois, and new Canadian fiddle tunes. She has taught fiddle workshops in Fort McMurray (AB), Saltspring Island (BC), Nanaimo (BC), London (ON), and in several communities across the Northwest Territories.
Originally from Courtenay, BC, Trish studied violin performance at the University of Victoria and the University of Western Ontario, where she did graduate work in Popular Music Studies under Serge Lacasse and Keir Keightley. She was the original fiddle player with celtic band Hollow Promise, and performed with them on the mainstage at the 2004 Island MusicFest on Vancouver Island.
