Bio
Hailing from Leeds, singer/songwriter Tristan Mackay originally plied his trade on the streets of Leeds under the moniker The Bedroom Orchestra, the 21st century take on the one man band. Using a loop pedal to layer percussion, guitar lines, husky vocals and his own vocal harmonies you would be forgiven for believing you were in the company of a full band.
The former busker with the trilby fast became somewhat of a celebrity in his home town. Although unsigned, his music has been picked up and showcased by BBC Radio 2 earlier this year and his track Wine & Me featured in the controversial TV drama Skins which has reached audiences and unearthed fans as far away as Australia and the US.
No stranger to controversy, The Bedroom Orchestra caused a bit of a stir with the second of his independently released EPs From The Live Lounge, a cheeky spoof of BBC Radio 1 DJ, Jo Wileys Live Lounge. For those with a keen ear the masterful trickery was immediately obvious but his sleight of hand had many others rushing for their local record shops to get their hands on his new release.
Tristans most recent project is as a solo artist under the name Tristan Mackay. He is currently putting the finishing touches to his eagerly awaited debut album, in collaboration with Grammy award winning producer Martin Levan (John Martyn, Andrew Lloyd Webber). It is due for release in February 2012 and is sure to cause a real stir. Definitely one to watch out for.
