Looping Madman

Biography

Troy Bennett takes the stage as a looping madman. Combining folk, rock, funk and fusion into a complex yet accessible musical stew. Troy is a true multi-instrumentalist, mastering percussion and melodic instruments with equal skill. In a typical performance Troy will harness the thrill of technology and with real time phrase sampling lead the audience through a musical labyrinth. Everything Troy creates in his performances is spontaneous and original, grown live right before your eyes. It usually starts with a single guitar, a simple chord structure, a song. Then a small clip of it is sampled allowing Troy to jump to one of many different instruments: sax, wind synth, mandolin, and bass. Each one can be layered into the sample loop. The foundation of sound forms and melodies, harmonies, beats and solos are created within, around, and on top of the loop. This allows for a very full sound coming from just one man on stage. Troy includes original compositions, interpretations of well-known and eclectic covers, and improvisation into his high energy set.
