"Troy Cartwright selected to play Berklee's Storyteller's Showcase.."

This year's STORYTELLERS concert will take place on Wednesday, May 8 at
7:30 pm at the David Friend Auditorium. The show features some of
Berklee's most exciting pop/rock singing and songwriting talent. This
year's show is our best ever... - Berklee College of Music

"Troy Cartwright on UNPEELED"

Paul McCartney goes midwest, if "Little Terrors" is anything to go by, mainly because this is Orpy-traditional country balladeering, but there's a real Macca flavour to the construction and sweetness, all of which is fine because Troy has gravel in the voice and is to the manner born when it comes to country... "Hold On" should be funky in a good Steely Dan kind of a way. - UNPEELED (Completely honest music reviews.)

"The Groove (live Troy Cartwright concert review)"

"Troy Cartwright & The Chemistry opened the show with a funky rock sound that echoed Muse. Cartwright’s biting vocals cut through the crisply distorted guitars that gave the tunes a catchy alt-rock edge. " - The Groove (Newspaper publication in Boston, MA)

Bio

Troy Cartwright is a country singer and songwriter born and currently residing in Dallas, Texas. Troy has opened for Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist from the Band of Heathens, Max Stalling, Mark David Manders, and Blacktop Gypsy. He was selected as the winner of the 25th annual B. W. Stevenson Songwriting Competition in Dallas, and just released his first EP titled Bull Run.

For the Bull Run EP, Troy enlisted a team of heavyweights from the local Dallas and Texas country scene including Grammy winner Lloyd Maines on pedal steel, Chad Stockslager of The King Bucks, as well as drummer/producer Jeff Howe and bassist Jason Steinschultz (the rhythm section for Texas country stalwart Max Stalling). This collection of songs, including the nostalgic "Sixteen" and familiar sounding "Coffee in the Morning and Whiskey at Night" was released in June of 2013.

Troy began coining his own songs after realizing, "It's the one thing nobody ever told me to do." After surviving high school, he spent time in Boston, Hershey, PA, and New York City before graduating from the Berklee College of Music. It was at Berklee, under the tutelage of lyric writing professor Pat Pattison, whose former students include Gillian Welch and John Mayer, that Troy surrendered to his muse and decided to pursue songwriting as a career. After a brief stint as a wedding singer in the Northeast, and a series of tours across the US and Europe, he returned back to his native Texas roots and began writing songs influenced by the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, John Prine and Jerry Jeff Walker.
