"Good Times"

True,
TheDowntown
Farmingdale
What Dave Glicker’s Downtown has done with Wednesday nights should seem simple but is actually extraordinary. With help from WBAB and Sam Ash Music Stores, the Downtown has properly promoted their Wednesday “Homegrown Live” nights to the point where drawing over two hundred people to hear new original music has become commonplace. In classic “build it and they will come” fashion, the club has proved that if you simply give people a worthwhile place to see original bands, and promote the night properly, people will show up even on a Wednesday night.
Such was the case recently when Fast Eddie, True, Inity, Perseverance, and Island of Lost Souls brought well over two hundred people through the Downtown doors. Though each band was well-represented, this night belonged to True.
True is a melodic “power pop” band that will undoubtedly remind some of Nine Days (the influence was inevitable, folks), but True’s material is a bit heavier than our new favorite sons’ is. The “power” side of the band comes courtesy of a heavy rhythm section of Lenny Rocillo on bass and Joe Guastello on drums, and an excellent lead guitarist in Joe Marselle, while the “pop” side is represented by frontman Paul Andrejack’s acoustic guitar and radio friendly voice. It’s a formula that it seems Long Island may soon become known for.
The band is currently recording its first CD, which, judging by the material they showcased at the Downtown, will be well worth checking out. For more information on the band, visit www.true-music.net.
