"Tryptamine - "Ergoline Transit""

In passing, Tryptamine describes themselves as surrealists. Their new album, "Ergoline Transit", easily supports that claim. None of the 11 songs on this disc are interested in straight lines or following a certain path; some of them aren't even necessarily concerned with being songs at all. Each track is better described as a representation of a mood or a feeling, swaying and transforming just as thoughts do.

There is a refreshing variation throughout the songs themselves. "LD50" and "Every Kid Gets Milk Tonight" are destined to be danced to in the wee hours whereas other songs, like "Breath," are so soothing that you don't realize you're listening so intently to them until they end.

Tryptamine is an experimental band, incorporating various synth and laptop sounds into their music. Songs certainly contain a bit of ambience (some more than others); however, the music never feels too cold or distant as electronic music sometimes can. The album has succeeded in finding the perfect balance between human and machine; it is digital harmony.

Tryptamine is generously streaming the entire album on their Web site www.underlyingthemes.com/tryptamine. It can also be purchased there as well for a mere $10. You can also see how it sounds live this Monday April 2, at the Dame.
