Bio

Tshwane Gospel Choir (aka TGC) is a vibrant music ensemble, based in the administrative capital of South Africa, Tshwane, Pretoria.  It is a development platform for musically talented young people in and around South Africa. The choir has travelled in various parts of our land, including concerts in Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland and UK.  Their hard work, persistence and resilience has seen them win notable awards in the music industry in the form of  BEST GOSPEL GROUP in South Africa (twice), by the SABC Crown Gospel Awards. Apart from being nominated in the Metro FM awards for Best Contemporary Gospel, the choir also received awards for BEST COMMUNITY OUTREACH & BEST HUMANITARIAN AWARDS from the SABC CROWN GOSPEL and INGOMA AWARDS respectively. In the first quarter of the year the ensemble was nominated for Best Gospel Group in Africa by Africa Gospel Awards (Ghana) among well established and highly acclaimed choirs in Africa. The choir is also a two-times South African Music Awards (SAMA 2019) nominee for Best Group and Best Contemporary Faith Album, an industry acknowledgement that speaks directly to the tenacity of the ensemble.

The latest accolade for TGC is being the choir of choice for the IDOLS Top10 show where the choir worked with all the Top10 contenders as their backing choir. The show as aired in September on Mzansi Magic, DSTV Channel 116.

In the same month, amidst many violent eruptions and gender-based killings in  our country, a music video was released titled ‘SEKWANELE’ meaning ‘enough-is-enough’. This timely and relevant message was well received in many circles of society.

TGC has had the honour of being the Official Opening Choir at the SA 2019 Presidential Inauguration Resident Choir held in the City of Tshwane recently. The choir performed in front of masses of people including political heads and dignitaries from all over Africa.

The ensemble has been Resident Choir for prestigious local productions such as Gospel Goes Classical, Afrikaans is Groot and Gospel Classics (SABC TV) since 2015. The choir also represented the country at the World Choir Games Friendship Festival

The global ambition and versatility of the choir has also seen them touring the UK with their  ‘Spirit of Africa’ production, performing in Scotland, Brighton and Liverpool. The choir’s rhythmic elements, combined with harmonious voices in expression of the rich cultural diversity of Africa have earned  the group Five-Star ratings from major  UK media houses namely The Scotsman, The Herald and The Times. They’ve been special guests at the BBC Studios in Scotland. Not only has the choir performed on global stages but the ensemble has also collaborated with iconic international gospel artists; Donnie McClurkin, James Fortune and Vashawn Mitchell including various artists from Africa.
