"Local Artist uses Talent to Help Feed the Hungry - South Bend Media"

Saturday, April 9th The Blue Island Bar & Grill will host TSwang of FunkHop Productions CD Release Party starting from 9 PM until…everybody is ready to go home!

Cover charge is $3 with a non-perishable item, $5 without. The non-perishable item will be donated to the Northern Indiana Food Bank.

“It is really important to me to help give back to our community.” TSwang said. “Bring one can or two cans or bring a bag of food! We really need to help the Northern Indiana Food Bank feed our community.”

The CD is called MoMenTum. It offers a hint of the 1980’s New Jack Swing sound infused with millennium club tracks combined with swaggering rhythms to relax or drive to. The R&B/Hip-Hop/Neo Soul artist, TSwang will perform music from his album along with other featured artist. The event is hosted by WSMK’s 99.1 FM’s Toby T, Twila, and Char.1. How long did it take you to to compose this album?

It took me about two years to complete the CD. The recording, vocal preparation, writing, production, and the market strategy. It's very important to have a plan.

2. Which studio did you use? Is it local?

The studio is local studio. It is my very own studio FunkHop Productions LLC.

3. Is MoMenTum your first album?

This is actually my 3rd CD that I have released on a global domain. The other CD's I have out there are "We Gets Down", and "I Never Had It Like This!"

4. Where else have you performed?

I have performed at the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert 2009 & 2010 at The Sietz Park Down Town South Bend, And we plan to do another one this year because last years was such a huge success. We raised 585 lbs of food for the Northern Indiana Food Bank. I have performed with the Dream Team at the Morris Performing Arts Center, The Improv Comedy Club in Orlando, Fl., The Lasalle Power Company, The Notre Dame Pep Rally with Daryl B, Still Will Cole, & The Reflections, The Taste Of Chicago, LMC College with B Cole and Sonya D, South West Michigan College with Trina, Rome, Juvenile, and Bizzy Bone. I have opened for Genuwine, Case, Drake, The Public Announce and Jeremiah.
5. Is there an overall theme to your music?

I just want to get people back to the dance floor! That was my drive in this whole CD to make you dance or move you in some kind of way! I really hope it works!

6. Who is your audience?

I would like to think everybody! Because I get a lot of attention from young and old but statistics say women & young people!

7. Where else besides the release party can readers purchase your album and where will they be able to find your upcoming performance dates?

You can hear snippets of the CD on my FaceBook and Myspace page along with tour dates and more. Just go to myspace.com/tswang. The Cd will be on sale at Rhapsody.com, Cdbaby.com, Amazon.com Orbit Records, Itunes.com and at the release party.

8. Why stay in the Michiana area? Why not the East or West coast?

I was born and raised in Chicago. I don't know! But I can tell you this, I just love the MidWest, because I was a middle child. So I have always enjoyed being in the middle you get to learn and experience a lot from the people who have tried things first rather than a hit or miss, you learn from it. I really enjoy how the MidWest is like a middle child, you just get a peace of everything, the east coast music, the west coast, the dirty south all that and a bag of chips. I love it!

"Gullens Music Has MoMenTum by Howard Dukes"

Gullens' music has 'moMEntum'
April 07, 2011|By HOWARD DUKES | South Bend Tribune Staff Writer

Anthony Gullens believes that music should be a source of joy.

The South Bend-based artist who goes by the stage name "T-Swang" says he knows one sure-fire sign that a song is good is that it makes listeners happy.

And he believes that hip-hop and R&B fans who listen to "moMEntum" will be very happy. Gullens, who will hold a CD release party at Blue Island Bar and Grill on Saturday, also wants to make the area's less fortunate residents happy as well.

Fans who bring a nonperishable food item to the CD release party will get a $2 discount to attend the event. The food will be given to the Food Bank of Northern Indiana.

"If I can't use my music to do something nice or to help somebody, then there is no sense in doing it," Gullens saysGullens says that he often incorporates a charitable component into events such as the CD release party for "MoMEntum."

Many of the area's residents need help, and the food bank needs to have its shelves replenished, Gullens says.

The release party will allow music fans to do a good deed while also seeing live performances by Gullens and other local and out-of-town acts.

Gullens says he made "MoMEntum" with one goal is mind.
"I wanted to do a CD and help people feel good," he says. "I wanted to make the people feel good about what they hear and dance to. A lot of the songs you hear now it seems that (the artists don't care) if you dance or feel good."

Instead, a lot of music appears to be aimed at selling something other than good beats, Gullens says.

"A lot of it is about advertising," he says.

Gullens says he believes that the industry tries to sell a certain lifestyle to listeners.

"They are trying to force a sound and products on people," he says.

Gullens says that people who listen to "MoMEntum" will hear songs that will make them want to dance.

He says fans will hear R&B that is fused with hip-hop. The songs will combine lyrical content with an edgy sound.

Gullens says that many longtime fans of contemporary urban music say the music has lacked that kind of raw sound for the last 10 or 15 years.

A song such as "My Pockets Stay Swoll" combines modern production techniques and lyrics about using hard-earned money to enjoy the good life to create a club-friendly song.

Meanwhile, the title track is a classic hip-hop song in which the MC showcases his skills on the microphone.

Gullens believes that both songs will get a good reception when audiences hear them at the CD release party. Gullens says that response to the songs has been positive so far.

"It's been nice to hear the feedback," Gullens says.

However, he believes that the positive feedback comes because "MoMEntum" fills a need.

"People want to dance and they want to have fun at the club or when they play a CD when they are in their cars."

"MoMenTum By T-Swang Artist: T-Swang"

Web: www.tswangmusic.com
Location: South Bend, IN
Genre: R&B/Soul
Key Tracks: Residual Love

Ever heard of baby-making music? Well, if you've been fiending for some old school
Roger and Zap, GAP Band and R Kelly style R&B/Soul, then T-Swang's got your fix.
MoMenTum By TSwang is a compilation of R&B / Soul tracks that take you back to the
late 80s, early 90s when a good slow song was all the Viagra any couple needed.

"Residual Love" is one of the top tracks on T-Swang's project and has a serious Roger
Troutman talk-box on it. The production track is nothing like the music you will hear out
of any of the more recent R&B artists of today. T-Swang gives you the real deal, uncut
soulful singing and good old fashioned baby-making lyrics that those of us who enjoyed
R Kelly's ballads would truly relish.

While T-Swang serves up a healthy dose of songs on 'MoMenTum', the project is not to
be mistaken for some young buck like Trey Songz. This is a veteran soul crooner who
just wants to help give couples their bedroom and dancefloor mojos back. Check it out if
you need a little libedo stimulation.

MUSICAL GOAL: "I just want to get people back to the dance floor! That was my drive in
this whole CD to make you dance or move you in some kind of way! There's a lot going
on in the world today. And sometimes we just need an escape ism... I really hope it
Works And I would like to have CD as the vehicle to start off (The Mission Is Possible
Tour for 2012). The tour would focus on helping with feeding the community throughout
the world from Food Banks to Food Banks. I really believe you have to use your talent to
help others." - T-Swang

I want to use my music to help Increase Awareness about Families who are in need. I want to do a tour entitled The Mission Is Possible Tour. Going from state to state city to city filling food trucks and barrels to help feed the needy.
My efforts have already put a dent in the hunger epidemic over the past 6 years by allowing me to raise over 5,000 lbs. of Non-Perishable food items to help stock the local pantry’s that provide food to feed family’s in there love one’s
“It is really important to me to help give back to communities all over the country.”

Long Term Goal: I would like to sign with a Major Label to showcase the raw influential talent that I have for the world to see and hear. And I would love to be a opener for Black Street, Dave Hollister, Taylor Swift, Usher or Alisha Keyes,. Chance The Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, etc, etc.

I believe that music should be a source of joy and expression. It should be able to make you feel something. I don’t care if it’s you dancing to it, riding to it, making love to it, making you think on a spiritual or political level. It’s doesn’t matter to me. It has to make you feel something. And if it doesn’t then you are not doing it right! If I can't use my music to do something to lift someone’s spirit or make them feel good, or even help cope or get through something, then there is no sense in doing it," TSwang
