"Artist Review"

You should know by now that I love to toot the horn of artist that move me. What I’ve always known about New York is that you could literally walk any direction and you’re going to find an actor, a model, a dancer or a singer. The possibility of them possessing the “It” factor that makes you stop what you’re doing to give them your undivided attention is rare. I find that even when I’m at places, such as an Open Mic Night, most often I’m checking facebook or updating my blog via my wordpress app. It takes talent on some other worldy sh*t to get my attention and even more than that to actually keep it.

I’ll be honest, when I first “met” Tuan X, I didn’t know what to think. I hadn’t actually met him. I met an old acquaintance at Tuan’s monthly open mic and that friendship led to me learning about a LOT of amazing artist. People praised all things Tuan X. They told me that Tuan X was one of the best singers they’d heard. They said his music was dope. His performances were solid and so the story goes. - Sheena L. Young

"An Interview With Tuan X"

I met Tuan a little under a year ago. I happened upon an open mic that he was hosting. As time progressed, I kept coming back to the monthly open mic event. I encountered so many amazing and interesting artists and it was like a breeding ground for my creative thought process. Throughout it all, I kept a watchful eye on Tuan X. I followed his tumblr. I read his blog. I friended him on facebook. And during the open mic event itself, I’d often tweet his hash tag in support of such a great outlet for creative expression. It wasn’t until a couple months ago, when I heard Tuan sing a number of his songs, that I realized I needed to get to know him better. — But those are my words about him. Its time to hear the man himself. - Sheena L. Young

"BET (Centric TV) Highlight"

Lucky son-of-a gun, Tuan X, 23, has everything it takes to make it big. He’s got a strong, old school voice; a young, distinctive look — The Bed-Stuy MC turned balladeer whose lived everywhere from Cali to Ol’ Virginny, with roots deeper still in the red dirt of the Carolinas, infuses the sounds and influences of everywhere Tuan’s been into his astonishing debut singles. One swooning, laugh inducing listen to the immediate winner “It’s An Addiction” and the forthcoming, ingeniously arranged “Imprint of My Heart”…

They seem to know it too. According to [Tai] Allen, “Tuan X is what the past created. What the present needs. What the future will remember.”

Lofty, no? Well, cop a listen to the humor and power of Solomon Burke with the grown man vulnerability of Al Green on this exclusive version of “It’s An Addiction” performed live at New York’s Nuyorican Cafe and you to will be feigning for your next Tuan X fix too. For music this good, Soul Sessions will gladly be the dealer for fellow Tuan X addicts everywhere, just stay tuned for more… - L. Michael Gipson
