Bio

TuffBong

TuffBong is the latest and soon to be greatest incarnation of a great concept in music. TuffBong is the fusion of the versatile rock band D-Xtreme and the pure and undiluted dancehall vocals of Jogo. D-Xtreme is an ever evolving rock band both musically and personnel wise. Drummer Mike Machado started the group in 1981; lead guitarist Stanley Brown joined the group in 1987. The final piece of the puzzle was bass guitarist A.J. Crestwell, who joined D-Xtreme in 1993. These three talented musicians have taken the DX sound all over the country in cities like Richmond, Parsippany, Washington D.C., New York, and Los Angeles. They have also toured around the world including Belgium, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Italy, and Germany. Along their travels they have combined fortune and talent into opportunities to play with the likes of Limbo Maniacs, Primus, Fishbone, and the Goo Goo Dolls. Their most successful album was entitled The Truth Shall Be Told which was released independently, it went on to sell over 90,000 copies in Europe. Their video for "New York Death Squad" made it to #5 on MTV's Europe Headbangers Ball. Currently D-Xtreme is in the rehearsal studio working on material for the first TuffBong Album.
Their new lead singer and front man for TuffBong is Jogo. A true Rude Boy, Jogo was born in Jamaica, where he lived until he moved to Brooklyn NY in 1989. Keeping himself immersed in the West Indian culture Jogo hung out on Church Ave. where he linked up with Barry Dread and Sydney whom were working with the Blastmaster KRS-ONE. From their influence Jogo tried his hand at reggae and soon started entering contests at such popular NY clubs such as the Q Club and Club Crystal. Those contests lead to him making Dub Plates for True Force and Desert Storm sound system in New York and Philadelphia. From there he started doing promo¡¦s for various NY radio stations, most notably Hot 97 with Ed Lover, Dr. Dre, and Lisa G. Jogo kept his name in the minds of the people with club dates in clubs all over the city including opening for Tanto Metro & Devonte and Mr. Easy.
The mixing of hard rock and rude dancehall has been smooth and easy. The bands musical diversity enables them to play rock, dancehall, ska, or just about anything Jogo can chant over. Jogo¡¦s powerful voice matches the driving tempo of the band, creating hooks that stick in your head long after the song ends. Together they create an energetic musical force that have perked the ears of Sean Paul fans as well as fans of Rob Zombie when they played at CBGB¡¦s. While building a fan base in the clubs of NYC such as The Stinger club, The Hook, The Underscore, the Continental, the Five Spot etc, TuffBong has also been in the studio putting together the album that will change the industry. The climate is just right for this perfect hybrid to emerge and take its place among best in the world of music.

The buzz around the industry is the resurgence of ¡§Black Rock¡¨, and TuffBong will take it and reggae to the next level.
