Bio

Tumba Sound was originally formed in early summer 2010. At that point, the band experienced a great response, but had little direction. With the enthusiasm still lingering, it was not until late fall 2010 that the concept took better shape under the direction of percussionist Julio Fadraga.

Within two weeks of Julio's arrival from Cuba, the band started working on the Latin side of Tumba Sound, and the new director was able to bring the different flavors of his native Caribbean island to the small pueblo of Fredericton. During this new phase, the band grew to incorporate a horn section, singers and piano, which is a very typical setup for Latin bands. With more members, the band inevitably embraced other musical influences such as Jazz, Funk and Afrobeat. The band got their act together in a hurry and performed an extremely well received set at Folly Fest 2011. Even though the time that Julio spend with the band was short, his input has been invaluable.

Hard work is starting to payoff for the now regrouped Tumba Sound. The band is currently riding on a boost of energy from the positive audience response; most recently witnessed during their full-house performance last December at Cedar Tree Cafe. This energy has not only helped the band stay together, but has also fueled their drive to create new and original material to keep you moving in 2012.
